Currently sitting at the top of the leader board as
Australia’s Number 1 Trainer, PETER MOODY is full of enthusiasm about his
2yo colt DRILL MASTER (by
REWARD FOR EFFORT ex Go With The Wind) as he heads into Saturday’s
Maribyrnong Trial Stakes 1000m LR at Flemington.
Another reason to smile is he has come up with barrier 2 and
Luke Nolan is the pilot.
DRILL MASTER was very impressive when given a soft time in a recent trial but showed he had the necessary education, size and strength for early 2yo racing.
Peter Moody said: “He’s got the class and he’s a real professional, just like his old man”
Peter Added: “it’s hard to get a gauge this early on his opposition but I am really happy with my bloke.”
DRILL MASTER was the
TOP PRICED yearling by his exciting first season sire
REWARD FOR EFFORT when he sold for
$170,000 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sales in March.
Offered as Lot 285 by
Chatswood Stud (as agent), he was a very nice colt.
Bred on the proven
EXCEED AND EXCEL / SADLER’S WELLS Cross, he has always shown
Peter Moody from the first time he threw the saddle on him that he was well above average.
It could be a
Dynamic start to the new season for
REWARD FOR EFFORT.
Dean Watt Bloodstock, the Bloodstock Agency arm of our business, purchased his Dam
GO WITH THE WIND for just $3,500 in foal to Any Given Saturday, for one of the original owners who raced
REWARD FOR EFFORT - Mr. GEORGE RASSOS, after the stallion was located to
Chatswood Stud for his stallion career.
Dean said: "We wanted to buy
Encosta De Lago and Saddler’s Wells line mares for REWARD FOR EFFORT because they were the nicks that were working best for his sire
EXCEED AND EXCEL at the time. Our owners who raced
REWARD FOR EFFORT didn’t have a lot of money to buy big time commercial mares to support their sire, so we elected to buy good types of mares by the right sirelines to help give the stallion every opportunity to succeed.”
GO WITH THE WIND was one of these. She was a good size and correct mare by
Song Of Tara a son of
SADLER’S WELLS.
She had a good pedigree being an unraced Full-Sister to Stakes Winner
SPECIAL SONG and a Half-Sister to
Gr1 Winner BOMBER BILL and Gr3 Winner
CAMARGUE.
Whilst her second Dam was
Gr1 Winner SPECIAL.
It’s exciting to have
DRILL MASTER in the Maribyrnong Trial on Saturday but incredibly, there is another
REWARD FOR EFFORT in the same race.
RESULTS a 2yo Filly trained by
Shaun Dwyer (
by REWARD FOR EFFORT ex GUNDA BELLA) has drawn barrier 3 alongside
DRILL MASTER.
RESULTS will be ridden by
Steven King. There is no official trial form on
RESULTS to gain any indication on how the filly is progressing.
Dare we live the Dream ?
Incredibly whilst
REWARD FOR EFFORT has 2 starters engaged in the field of 12.
Only one other First Season Sire has a runner in the race. That's a $4,000 Service Fee stallion Strategic Maneuver.
It’s not only in Melbourne that
REWARD FOR EFFORT has Runners.
Across in Adelaide, the first 2yo race of the season attracted 7 acceptances and incredibly
REWARD FOR EFFORT has 2 runners in the field and again, the only first season sire with runners on the day.
BONUSES 2yo Filly (ex HEAR OUR PRAYES – by Grand Lodge) trained by Lloyd Kennewell at Morphettville ridden by Jason Holder.
SILENT SNIPER 2yo Filly (ex Cumulonimbus – by El Moxie) trained by Wayne Francis at Strathalbyn ridden by apprentice Krystal Bishop.
So despite whatever the eventual placings may be, we simply can’t be happier to see
REWARD FOR EFFORT having 4 runners on the opening 2yo race day of the season.
Especially considering he also has
2 in the Top 6 Fastest Runners at the Inglis Ready To Run Sale being held on 7 October.
Good Luck to all connections.
