REWARD FOR EFFORT (Exceed and Excel - Miss Prospect, by Rory's Jester)
REWARD FOR EFFORT winning the Blue Diamond Gr1
who has claimed the title of -
CHAMPION FIRST CROP SIRE in VICTORIA.
REWARD FOR EFFORT was RUNNER-UP to ROTHESAY on the ACTIVE SIRES LIST
for the AUSTRALIAN 2YO FIRST CROP SIRES PREMIERSHIP
REWARD FOR EFFORT sired 10 Individual Winners (9 in Australia and 1 in South Africa) and 6 placegetters.
On the
Australian First Season Sires Premiership, of the Active Sires at Stud,
REWARD FOR EFFORT finished in 2nd position to Queensland based sire
ROTHESAY (Glenlogan Park), who sired 14 winners from 41 starters. In equal 3rd position with 8 winners each were
HINCHINBROOK (Yarraman – NSW) and STAR WITNESS (Widden – NSW).
On the
Australian 2yo Sires Premiership of Active Sires at Stud -
by Winners: REWARD FOR EFFORT finished in 9th position which was a marvellous feat for a new sire to crack into the
top 10 against all sires. This category was taken out by
NOT A SINGLE DOUBT (23) over SNITZEL (21) and I AM INVINCIBLE (20).
Sadly, for
Arrowfield Stud and NSW, their young sire
BENETEAU (Redoute’s Choice) passed away after standing just one season. His results were excellent producing
12 winners from 27 runners.
Standing for a modest service fee of $10,000 + GST, the fresh, young, Victorian sire received a good number of mares in his first crop however there was a genuine lack of commercial value mares and proven producers.
However that hasn’t stopped the son of
Champion Sire EXCEED AND EXCEL from upgrading his mares and the results have been terrific for those who supported him.
Many good judges see similarities between
REWARD FOR EFFORT and another Champion sire that started with similar humble beginnings in Victoria –
Encosta De Lago.
Simply, if they are good enough, from humble beginnings sires can create their own dynasties.
REWARD FOR EFFORT has had 30 of his progeny run in his 2yo year. In comparison that was well short of many to some of his more expensive, high profile peers.
REWARD FOR EFFORT overall recorded
10 individual winners (33.3%) with another 6 placegetters. Of the balancing
14 2yo runners,
13 have earned prizemoney. One of these winners was at Turffontein in South Africa.
In Australia, Rothesay had 41 starters for 14 wins whilst Reward For Effort had 29 runners for 9 wins.
Most judges at the 2015 yearling sales believed the progeny of
REWARD FOR EFFORT were terrific types however the consensus was whatever they achieved as 2yo’s, they would prove to be
much better as 3yo’s.
