Tomorrow at Canterbury we will see the return of Midnight at Ascot to the track for the first time since February of this year.
The affectionately named “Scotty” will don the Dynamic silks in race 6 on the card, the Super Saver Handicap over 1100 metres.
Midnight at Ascot has been a different horse since arriving at the Broadmeadow stable of Darren Smith in May of 2010.
Before his arrival, Scotty had eleven race starts for just one placing however we were always of the opinion that given the right environment, he was capable of winning some nice races.
Since that time the gelding has started a further 20 times for a total of 7 wins and 6 placings including a stakes placing in the LR Lightning Handicap.
Darren has done a sensational job with this honest 6yo Mossman gelding who has thrived in the more laid back surroundings at Broadmeadow.
Midnight at Ascot has now won over $150,000 for his clients and this preparation is shaping up to bring in more cheques for the connections.
Scotty, who boasts a good first up record, will carry 59.5kgs after the claim for New Zealand based apprentice Jason Collet.
This big weight is always tough for a horse to carry first up but he has been working well alongside fellow Dynamic star, Atomic Force.
Providing all goes well tomorrow, a trip to Melbourne or a look at appropriate stakes grade races here in Sydney could be on the agenda for the Darren Smith trained gelding.
We wish the best of luck to Midnight at Ascot and his connections for the first up run in the 6th event at Canterbury.
The race can be viewed live on TVN at 3.55pm tomorrow.
