Springtime is when the serious Sires have their progeny come out to play.
This is the time of the year Owners and Breeders want to know which Sire’s progeny are capable of performing in A Grade.
However it’s not just about the Stakes Races either.
It’s harder to win races in the spring than any other time of the year because the best of the best are attacking each other for the massive prizemoney on offer. Trainers and owners have their horses in work to determine if they can take the big step up to A Grade.
Those that are just below that elite level then shuffle down the ladder.
Standard city Saturday Benchmark races therefore become much harder to win.
An average Saturday class horse then slips down to mid-week level.
The mid-week class galloper can’t beat those horses coming down from Saturday class racing so they slip down to provincial level and the provincial level horses find that grade beyond them so they slip down to country level.
The FACT never changes – Owners Want Winners !
So at this time of year when Stallion Lists are published for WINNERS over the PAST 7 DAYS and the PAST 30 DAYS these are excellent indicators as to what stallions are doing the job at the right time.

Another excellent comparative tool to determine the effectiveness and abilities of Sires is to look at the number of Winners a stallion has sired in the season, compared to the number of Runners.
Analysts should remember not all sires get the same quality of broodmares each season.
The better the Stallion, based on performance and marketing hype – the better the harem that visits him, which traditionally flows through to represent better success of these progeny.
However it’s not always the case.
Take for instance the sensational efforts of brilliant young stallion SMART MISSILE.
Standing at a Service Fee of just $13,200, this outstanding son of Fastnet Rock is punching way above his weight division.
He is a fraction of the Service Fee of his peers and as a result, has had lesser quality broodmares visiting him.
Yet despite that, he has been able to uplift the results of his progeny on the racetrack.
Against every Sire in Australia, SMART MISSILE has results showing this season he has sired 51 Individual Winners. This season these winners include a Gr1 Winner, Gr2 Winner and a Listed Winner from 131 Individual Runners.
That’s is 38.9% Winners : Runners strike rate.

New Zealand’s Top Ranked Sire is SAVABEEL – He has been Champion Sire in NZ for the past 4 years and is leading again in the 2018/19 Racing Season.
In Australia this season Savabeel has sired 91 Individual Runners / 18 Individual Winners (19.8%)
In New Zealand this season he is leading sire with 71 Individual Runners / 21 Individual Winners (29.6%) including 6 Stakes Winners.

These four (4) 2yo’s are all in Full Training.
For each horse, it is their fifth (5th) session of training.
They have each received four sessions of introductory – educational pre-training to develop positive learning experiences and develop sensible ridden skills. These four youngsters will head across to Randwick in a couple of weeks to continue their learning experiences and its anticipated they may as a minimum barrier trial and then race.
Each of these four horses were deliberately selected to be at their best as they mature into their 3yo year.
