Congratulations to our Dynamic Owners of 3yo filly SUO JURE who was facing the starter for her 3rd career start and her first start this preparation, when she displayed grit and determination to win the first race at Kembla on Thursday, the Corporate Members Race Day Maiden Handicap over an unsuitable 1000m in a slick 57.91 secs with a last 600m of 33.47 secs.
SUO JURE winning at Kembla
SUO JURE (3yo f Sebring x Vicereine (GB)) was an Inglis Classic purchase from Torryburn Stud.
SUO JURE as a yearling
What’s in a Name? SUO JURE is Latin and means “in her own right.” Its used to describe a female of nobility that governs and rules in her own right separately from a male partner. This is a perfect name for a well bred filly from a mare named Vicereine.
Bred to get out over a mile, the 1000m scamper at Kembla didn’t suit the way our filly is being trained, however a good training performance by her mentor Jason Coyle had given her enough foundation and aided by an 11 out of 10 ride by Dynamic pilot Tim Clark, which ensured SUO JURE claimed victory.
Ideally we wanted to get cover early in the run and the pre-race plan was to be positive from the wide draw and work across hopefully finding the back of the leaders, to allow us to have a cart up into the race.
However that plan went out the window at the start when SUO JURE jumped brilliantly from the outside gate, landing a length in front after 50m. Tim looked across and only the eventual runner-up named Mick’s New Chick had pushed up underneath our filly, to hold the fence. Tim worked across the field to sit eyeballing Mick’s New Chick as that filly dug in to hold the rail position.
SUO JURE swung for home still eyeballing that other runner and those chasing were yielding to the pressure up front being created through slick sectional times they were peeling off.
At the 200m, SUO JURE held a head margin on the runner-up, who was fighting back hard and these two paired off, in a ding-dong battle over the concluding stages.
However it was SUO JURE who despite being under pressure throughout, and now running on fumes as the gas had run dry, she didn’t yield and dug deep to claim the gutsy win by a half-head.
A big crew of Dynamic Owners were on hand to welcome back SUO JURE and Tim Clark to the Winner’s Circle.
SUO JURE had been well supported in betting, backed in from $3.20 to $2.20 favourite.
Tim Clark was interviewed post race saying:
Scott Beckett (Dynamic Syndications Client Liaison Officer) listens to Tim Clark's interview
“She’s had the benefit of a preparation before and has come back better. She showed nice speed and sat outside the leader comfortably and then, it was a real fight to the line.
“She was going to win more easily but just being first up, she felt the pinch the last little bit but obviously she’s done enough.
“She had to do it at both ends, she’s also a little light mouthed and a little sensitive so she wanted to get her head up and run through the bridle a little bit and that probably affected her late in the race.
“There is improvement there and hopefully she improves and she does want a bit further.” Tim added.
SUO JURE was physically immature at her first preparation where she has 2 runs for running 5th on both occasions and turned out to strengthen and mature further.
With this early experience of going to the races and with the extra time she had been given the filly was a much stronger individual this time in and the win first up is a reward for her owners’ patience.
