Trainer Mick Price has revealed that injury-plagued mare Samaready will target black type sprint races during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival.
Samaready
Samaready will have just her second run in eighteen months on Saturday, when she resumes in Theshark.com.au Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield, and Price told Racing Ahead that he plans to restrict the valuable mare to races over a sprinting distance this campaign.
“I think we just have to pick the eyes out of the sprint races,” Price said on RSN.
“I don’t think that we need to go past 1200 with her.
“If she runs in all the black type races and all the sprints, she will add to her CV and that will be us.
“There are plenty of options for her.”
Samaready opened as a clear favourite in the betting market for the race formerly known as The Heath 1100 but Price does not share the same confidence as punters and believes the Blue Diamond Stakes winner will head into the race very vulnerable.
“She is very well in herself,” Price said.
“She worked on the course proper here with Ajeeb over a strong half mile and she pulled up blowing.
“I just have the idea that we have been gentle on her and she is vulnerable first-up.
“I would love to see her win and I think that she will give a really good account of herself but I just expect she is a bit vulnerable fitness wise after having only one run in eighteen months.
“As long as she runs well and runs a genuine to the line race then we have plenty of options going forward.”
Price will not decide on a spring path for Samaready until he sees how she performs on Saturday but the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 14, the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield and a possible tilt at Group 1 level in both the Manikato Stakes (1200m) and Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) all appear to be realistic options for the daughter of More Than Ready.
