Australia’s best thoroughbreds were honoured last night at the
Australian Horse of the Year awards in Melbourne and excitingly for
Newgate Farm their new recruit
DISSIDENT was the big winner being crowned both
Champion Sprinter and also
Australian Horse of the Year whilst
Gai Waterhouse’s VANCOUVER was crowned Champion 2yo.

Peter Moody trained the son of
Sebring to win five Group 1 races but importantly he won four of these last season:
Memsie Stakes (1400m), C F Orr Stakes (1400m), All Aged Stakes (1400m) and Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m).
It is the fifth time in the past six years a Peter Moody-trained horse has won the honour with Typhoon Tracy winning in 2010 and Black Caviar winning the title on three occasions.
DISSIDENT retired as a five-time Group 1 winner of $2 million and stands at Newgate Farm at a fee of $38,500.

In the tightly contested two-year-old category,
Golden Slipper winner Vancouver got the nod over Blue Diamond Stakes and ATC Sire's Produce winner
Pride Of Dubai as the best juvenile.
