It’s No longer a SECRET ! Dynamic Delighted with Promising Filly
Dynamic Syndications 2yo filly SECRET DELIGHT will contest Race 1 at Warwick Farm on Saturday, the Australian Turf Club Plate 1000m. The daughter of Champion Sire Encosta De Lago is from the Gr1 Blue Diamond placed mare DEVINE SECRET and is in the expert hands of outstanding Rosehill trainer DAVID PAYNE.
From the time she was broken-in, the reports from our horse educator Shane Rose was she’s well above average. These reports have continued to flow each step of the way.
Secret Delight has always been a nice type
Importantly for her Dynamic team of owners, she has been living up to the early promise.
Still at a physical disadvantage being a 13 November foal, the filly has a lot more growing and maturing to do. However to be showing us so much so early, we believe she may have a promising Spring preparation in front of her if she can continue making the necessary improvements, both mentally and physically.
She’s been bred to be quick, based on the proven Speed Cross of ENCOSTA DE LAGO / THUNDER GULCH which has already produced Gr2 Winner: PRESS THE BUTTON - 6 furlongs.
Whilst another 11 Stakes Winners on the extended ENCOSTA DE LAGO / MR. PROSPECTOR cross are:
AERONAUTICAL, BESAME MUCHO, BROM BROM, FIFTH AVENUE LADY, GOLD LOTTEY, NIAGARA, NORTHERN METEOR, RISK AVERSION, ROAD TO ROCK, SIRMIONE, TAN TAT DE LAGO.
If we review the cross further to FAIRY KING / MR. PROSPECTOR we can add in an extra 18 Stakes Winners:
A SHIN VIRGO, APRILLIA, BAMBELLO, CATHERINA LADY, EMPIRE GOLD, ETERNAL MELODY, I'M YOURS, KASUMI, KIM INVADER, KYOWA HAPPINESS, NORTHERN METEOR, ROYAL ALCHEMIST, RUSSIAN SPIRIT, SANS PAREIL, SIACHEN, SPEED SIX, THUMBS UP, ULUNDI.
Of these 29 Stakes Winners bred on the extended cross, 23 have won at sprint distances. So she has the pedigree for speed.
Secret Delight proved she was speedy when winning in the wet last start
From a racing perspective, we are delighted with what we have achieved to date with the filly.
We had two trials in February and March with the filly, thinking she may have been a genuine late contender for the Golden Slipper. We had planned to run her in either the Riesling Slipper Trial or the Magic Night Stakes as the lead in however we were dealt a setback when she suffered a stone bruise and this developed an abscess in her foot. We gave her a few weeks in the paddock to prepare to take her to Brisbane. We intended to run at Scone and then go straight up. Alas, things went pear shaped at Scone in the $140,000 Arrowfield Classic, when the filly was badly interfered with as they jumped and then she never got out of a tight pocket in the straight.
That’s racing !
She showed her true class and potential when at her second race start, she led them a merry chase at Canterbury over 1250m and was never in danger being eased up the final section to still win by 1.3 lengths.
Secret Delight won comfortably last start despite being eased down
This Saturday we have gambled a bit dropping her back to the 1000m distance.
We considered this to be her better option.
She has blistering gate speed if we want to use it, so we are not concerned about being able to take up a forward position. We do anticipate a lot of speed in this event so a trailing position on the back of the leaders would be ideal.
Having 3 trials and 2 race starts she now has race experience. The penny seems to have dropped mentally with the filly as well. She is proving a lot better with her racecraft now than she has ever been before.
She is as fit as a 2yo can be. So we anticipate her to be full of running in the final furlong. Since winning in the rain at Canterbury, the stable has kept her fresh.
We know she can handle rain affected ground but she is definitely better on drier tracks. Also she gets first use of the track here.
Secret Delight will find a slighty better track tomorrow
Importantly it’s also about the weight. The 1000m is a Set Weights & Penalties where the 1300m was an Open Hcp. So despite winning and being the only city winner in the 1000m race, she could only received 54.0kgs. We also took the claim for inform apprentice Blake Spriggs, so will carry only 52.5kgs. If we had competed in the 1300m event, we were allotted there 56.0kgs against the boys. We were not well placed under that weight scale.
Also a wider draw on Saturday at Warwick Farm is not a concern. If anything it’s a slight benefit. With the track at Warwick Farm always noted as being softer on the rail and also the 1000m is a “L” shaped track, running wider is of little concern in the early stages.
The main issue is that we are coming back 250m. It’s a concern to drop back to 1000m. Coming back is unusual but we have considered all aspects and at this stage of the filly’s career and with what we are eyeing off in the early Spring Carnival, the 1000m is now the right distance for her.
We are under no illusions of the difficult task we are facing. This is a field of some very promising speedy 2yo’s.

So apart from showing promise in their trials or race starts to date, many in this race are also bred to be stars as well.
However we had considered this opposition before scratching from the 1300m event and still believe we have selected the right distance for her. We would be surprised if she wasn’t competitive here and finished in the mix.
We are hopeful that Secret Delight can be competitive again
Whatever the outcome, she will be off to the paddock on Monday for a short break so we can decide which race path to follow into the Spring.
We wish all our connections the best of luck with SECRET DELIGHT in race 1 at Warwick Farm. Dynamic Syndications Racing Synd (Mgr: D Watt), N Arnold, M Faria, N Fraser, J Keeley, N Loader, G Rassos, F Welk & Dynamic No 25 Synd (Mgr: D Watt).
