Unbeaten 3yo Filly BEAUTY kept her record at a perfect three for three when storming home from midfield to win Saturday's Harrold’s - William Crockett Stakes LR (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
Ridden by Luke Curry, the 3yo daughter of Smart Missile was in a challenging position on the home turn and did best in the run to the line to defeat the Pierro filly Rainbow Girl by half a length with All Too Hard's Illuminaire a half-head back in third.
Trainer Tony McEvoy admitted it was a pleasant surprise with Beauty graduating to stakes grade.
“She is a beauty,” the trainer declared.
Ridden by Luke Currie, Beauty scored a half-length win over Rainbow Girl with Illuminaire a half-head away third.
During the race Rainbow Girl as expected quickly found the front and ran them along at a good solid speed to only be 1.15 seconds off the course record. BEAUTY had cover until the 700m before being exposed three deep. She joined in deeper on the home turn and she still ran home as strongly as over the last 200m. Rainbow Girl did have the coveted leader’s role along the rails and she fought on well.
In a blanket finish, three-quarters of a length separated the first five across the line.
BEAUTY had been a convincing winner at Gawler when making her debut in May and was then spelled. She backed up that victory with a narrow win over 1100 metres at Bendigo when making her seasonal debut on October 10.
McEvoy has always held Beauty in high esteem but was treading carefully with the filly.
"We trialled her at home and she trialled up beautifully so she came across and we ran her in a benchmark 70 race at Bendigo," Trainer Tony McEvoy said.
"Our next goal was a benchmark 64 over 1200 metres here at Moonee Valley next Friday night.
"But she came out of that Bendigo race so well and on the track she had gone to another level."
"She's gone and got the black type a bit earlier than I expected and I think she'll keep getting better."
McEvoy said he was considering the Jim Beam Black Stakes at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day or the Twilight Glow Stakes at Sandown on November 17 for the daughter of Smart Missile.
BEAUTY became the 8th stakes-winner for Twin Hills Stud's SMART MISSILE who is enjoying a phenomenal run with at present. He has sired Group 1 ATC Spring Champion Stakes winner Maid Of Heaven and Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude winner Smart Melody over the past few weeks and has added Beauty to his resume.
