As easy as you like! That’s the only way to describe the trial of Specific Choice when he cruised to the line for a comfortable win at Randwick on Tuesday. Our unbeaten colt is growing into his skin and becoming more of a racehorse every time he hits the track.
In heat 6 of the day, Specific Choice was given the task of trialling to keep his fitness up for his next race start later this month. What we discovered is his fitness was at the optimum level for this stage of the preparation and he went to the line effortlessly which brought smiles to the faces of us here at Dynamic.
Specific Choice won his maiden race start at Kembla on the 15th of September jumping out of the ground over the final 100m to win by a nose. We knew we had a talented youngster before the race but to see him produce that sort of performance well short of his best distance immediately got us excited.

After the impressive showing he produced, Dynamic Syndications realised they had numerous options for this quality Lonhro colt and got to work in mapping out a plan for the immediate future. Managing Director of Dynamic, Dean Watt and trainer Chris Waller sat down and discussed countless options where it was decided that an easy barrier trial in early October would be the best option for the horse going forward.
This was done to ensure that we did not bust this potential superstar before he had reached his pinnacle. The trial would also continue the education process of the colt and put him in an excellent position for his next start and some nicer races in the future.
The decision proved fruitful as he won the trial in impressive fashion in a time of 1:03.9 with the margin a ½ length - ½ length.
After jumping in lovely fashion, Specific Choice sat at the girth of the leader and just cruised around the turn coming into his own as he reach the top of the straight. He never hit second gear and the jockey was unmoved as he coasted to the line beating his rivals who looked to be working much harder than he was. Top hoop, Hugh Bowman commented on jumping off that he was a really nice type and will keep improving as he gets more of a trip.
Both Chris and we here at Dynamic were extremely pleased in the way he trialled. Not only were we impressed by the ease in which he won but the way he is obviously learning and the improvement that is left in him. He could just keep getting better and better and this trial will once again help him mature as he learns about his trade and develops into a stronger and more mentally switched on horse.
With the help of Chris Waller, we devised our next step going forward to be a 1600m BM70 at Warwick Farm on October 10th. This event looks to be ideal and there were 16 nominations for the race when they came out on Thursday. Looking further down the track, an 1800m race at Rosehill on the 27th looks an option. Dynamic are careful always to have a back-up plan and a 1600m BM65 at Gosford will also be looked at however all depends on how the colt is progressing and where we think he will be most suited.
It’s exciting times ahead and we will keep you updated with the progress of this Lonhro colt as he aims to step through the grades over the coming weeks.
