Abbey Marie, a sister to 2011 Gr1 Australian Oaks heroine
Absolutely, the Mick Kent-trained
Abbey Marie kept her record at a perfect three out of three in Saturday’s $400,000 Group 1Schweppes Oaks (Australasian Oaks) (2000m) at Morphettville.
She went one better than her sister Absolutely did, who was also trained by Kent, finished second to Lights Of Heaven in this race in 2011 before travelling to Sydney to defeat Shamrocker in the ATC Australian Oaks at Randwick.
Ridden by Luke Nolen, Abbey Marie showed an impressive turn of foot to run down the game Silent Sedition by a long-neck with C'est Beau La Vie three-quarters of a length back in third.
Previously a winner at Sandown and Caulfied, the daughter of Redoute’s Choice has earned $315,870 from her three starts.
"She’d had a good grounding going into it, even though it was only her third start,” Kent said.
"She’d had a couple of preps but needed some time off after a throat operation. I wasn’t worried about the distance it was just if she was savvy enough.
"She’s straight to the paddock and we will bring her back for the spring, the Myer Classic will be the race for her.
"She’s a bit more brilliant than Absolutely, genetically they are set run these trips and no amount of training can change that.”
Abbey Marie was a $300,000 purchased out of the Arrowfield Stud draft at the 2014 Inglis Easter Australian Yearling sale,
She is the seventh foal of the 4-time winner Catshaan (Catrail) a half-sister to the champion Australian bred sprinter Kinshasa No Kiseki (Fuji Kiseki) a dual Group 1 winner honoured as the Champion Sprinter/Miler in Japan in 2010.
Catshaan has a Redoute’s Choice colt foal and was bred to Zoustar last spring.
Abbey Marie becomes the 131st stakes winner and the 29th Group 1 winner for the breed-shaping Redoute’s Choice who will stand his 17th season at Arrowfield Stud this spring at a fee of $110,000.
Two races later INTO THE MIST made it a Stakes winning double and took the tally to 132 stakes winners when she won the Gr2 Queen of the South.
In rapidly fading light,
Into The Mist emerged from the gloom to capture Saturday's Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville.
Ridden by Jason Holder, Into The Mist finished best to defeat the very game Atlantis Dream (Elusive City) by three-quarter of a length with Rocket Commander (Court Command).
The homebred multiplied her worth after breaking her stakes maiden at her seventh attempt.
Her overall record stands at 5 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from 14 starts for earnings of $229,580.
The
4yo daughter of Redoute's Choice is the third live foal, third winner and second stakes-winner out of the high-class Encosta de Lago mare De Lago Mist.
Her first foal Instinction (Exceed And Excel) won three Listed stakes races including the Zeditave Stakes (1200m) before taking up stud duties at Eliza Park, Queensland.
The daughter of Encosta de Lago has a yearling filly by Exceed And Excel and a colt foal by Pierro. She was covered by Brazen Beau last spring but missed.
Into The Mist became the 132nd stakes-winner for Redoute's Choice
On the day Redoute's Choice earned further Black Type when Kebede was placed in the a Gold Coast Bracelet and Zestful was placed in the Silk Stocking.
