In danger of being caught behind the tiring Booker, Trekking's rider Kerrin McEvoy had to push away another speed hump in Brave Song and when he found clear running, he came away for a commanding win in the Testa Rossa Stakes LR at Caulfield.
TREKKING winning the Testa Rossa S., LR at Caulfield
Trekking is by Street Cry (IRE) from the mare Outdoor.
From just 13 starts it was Trekking’s fifth win with 4 placings.
The heavily backed Godolphin 4yo gelding defeated Kemono (JPN) (by Kinshasa No Kiseki) by one and a quarter lengths with Heart Of A Lion (by Lion Heart) running on well to grab third a further half a length back.
Trekking had already been stakes performed on four occasions when running second to Trapeze Artist in the Black Opal Stakes Group 3, third behind Eptimum and Single Bullet in the Red Anchor Stakes Group 3 and third behind Menari and Siege of Quebec in The Rosebud LR. He was also fourth to Merchant Navy, Booker and Muraahib in the McNeil Stakes Gr3.
"He's getting confidence with each win," Jockey Kerrin McEvoy said.
"I was third the fence and had to do a bit of a push and shove to get out, but he had the gears required to get out and get going and win the race."
Trainer James Cummings said "It's great to see one of our horses drew a nice barrier and get a nice run at Caulfield, which has been a bit hard the last couple of weeks.
"He came down here in good form, he's really had a great preparation so far, he's gone ahead since his last run and he is airborne. It's his second preparation as a gelding and he is really rewarding us."
Bred by Darley, Trekking is the first foal of the 3-time winning Redoute's Choice mare Outdoor who was a daughter of Champion 3YO filly in Australia in 2006,
Serenade Rose.
SERENADE ROSE - Champion Australian 3YO
A daughter of Stravinsky (USA), Serenade Rose won the Group 1 VRC Oaks, Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks and Group 1 STC Arrowfield Stud Stakes. She had just three foals before her death in November 2011.
Outdoor has an unraced 3yo colt by Medaglia d'Oro named Paraglide, a 2yo Lonhro colt named Jetski and was covered by Street Boss (USA) last spring having not been served in 2016.
Dynamic Syndications were delighted with this result of Trekking because he is closely related to our SMART MISSILE x SERENADE LILY (NZ) Colt which we are about to release to the market.
