Odds-on favourite SUPER ONE (by I AM INVINCIBLE) took out the the $325,000 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe Gr2 (1200m), final leg of the Singapore Golden Horseshoe series on Friday night, demoralising his 11 two-year-old rivals.
The exciting prospect was in full control the moment he jumped to the lead under Craig Newitt, clearing the field effortlessly by 2 lengths within 200 metres while the rest were already under pressure.
Once Newitt settled him in front, the race was as good as over. Super One never looked threatened as he just coasted along on the bridle, giving the impression Newitt was just toying with his rivals with a touch of arrogance, waiting for the last 400m to let rip.
Newitt pushed the go button and the hotpot just gave them the slip with consummate ease, just giving him a few reminders in the last 200m to make sure nothing from behind would catch them unawares.
He need not have worried because he romped in by a widening five lengths from Genius and Kubera Warrior who finished separated by a nose.
Even more telling was the smart time clocked, recording 1min 9.9secs, which would have been even quicker had Newitt not turned off the engine a 25 metres away from the line.
Relief was the first visible emotion etched on connections especially after Freedman intimated a trip to Australia could be on the cards.
“It’s a big relief he won, especially when you are the short-priced favourite going into a big race like this,” said the Australian expat trainer said.
“He was in a good mood in the parade ring, which was a very good sign. He behaved himself very well.
“He’s always shown enormous ability early doors and has great speed. I’ve spoken with the owners and we are toying with the idea of taking him to Melbourne in November.
“We’ll see how he pulls up first. He’s still got plenty of scope for improvement, but he sure is a very exciting horse.”
Newitt, who had all along sung the praise of his undefeated juvenile.
“This two-year-old is just very classy. I’ve ridden another two-year-old who won a Group 1, Samaready in the Blue Diamond Stakes (2012) and this one is as good as any two-year-old you would ever see.
“He can run the times, put himself in the best spot. He did change strides tonight and that’s why I had to shake him up a bit.
“I thought there would be another horse who would roll up and challenge us, but he’s got a really good turn of foot and he was never going to get beaten.
“I’ve always seen him improve with every run. He is a galloper who just goes to the next level and gets better and better all the time.
“This is by far his best win. I think Michael has planned bigger things for him and I’m sure he is the right horse to bring to Australia.
“I’ve sat on him from Day 1 and I’ve always chewed off Michael’s ears about him. Thanks to the owners for putting me on.”
Meanwhile, on Saturday at Scone, I AM INVINCIBLE's 2yo daughter MISS ANTAEUS who had won on debut at Warwick Farm added valuable black type to her pedigree page when finishing 3rd in the Woodlands Stakes 1100m Listed Race.
It's been a good few days for the boom sire with his 2yo Sargent Doakes winning the Inglis 2yo Challenge at Scone the previous day.
