Milanova, the most expensive broodmare ever sold in Australia at public auction, has produced a very exciting winner at
Wexford in Ireland on Saturday when three year-old Galileo colt
Los Barbados demoralised his peers, winning eased up by a staggering
11 lengths x ½ length as they took his picture.
At the furlong (200m) LOS BARBADOS goes to the front
Los Barbados was resuming from a spell against a field of 10 runners, over 1m 3f (2,212m) with trainer Aidan O’Brien’s son Joseph in the saddle.
Placed twice in three previous runs in his first preparation, the 3yo colt Los Barbados made no mistakes with blinkers and a tongue tie on for the first time.
He is the second winner for Milanova and is the first colt bred in the Northern Hemisphere.
Milanova
Milanova was bought by Coolmore for $5 million at the 2008 Inglis Broodmare Sale from a dispersal of Tyreel Stud stock and was sent to the Northern Hemisphere.
A Group 3 winning daughter of champion sire Danehill, Milanova is a full sister to dual Group 1 winner and successful sire Holy Roman Emperor (IRE), who is back in Australia for Coolmore this spring.
This is also the family of champion Australian sires Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur as Milanova is a grand-daughter of celebrated matriarch Fanfreluche.
MILANOVA - on the racetrack
This result was good news for the team at
Dynamic Syndications.
Over the past couple of seasons we have purchased 2 fillies from the mare
PRETTY FLAMINGO –
by More Than Ready from MILANOVA.
Pretty Flamingo was a record priced weanling at the same sale her dam Milanova was sold at when she was knocked down for $600,000.
Dynamic Syndications purchased the first foal of PRETTY FLAMINGO a filly by Encosta de Lago named LAGONDA (Gerald Ryan) and her second foal - a filly by Fastnet Rock named TICKLED PINK (Gai Waterhouse).

Race Review: Chased leaders in 3rd, pushed along in 2nd under 2 furlongs out, ridden to lead 1 furlong out, stayed on strongly under pressure final furlong, easily won.
Stewards Report: The Stewards requested a report from A.P. O'Brien, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Los Barbados, winner, as compared with its most recent run at Naas on 13th May where he finished 6th of 10 runners, beaten approx. 12 lengths. A representative of the trainer reported that the application of first time blinkers and tongue-tie may have brought about any apparent improvement in form. Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
Rider’s Post Race Press Interview – Joseph. P. O’Brien: “He disappointed his last two you could say but he had plenty of time off.
“I didn't expect him to win like that and it was probably an ordinary enough race but I'd imagine he has a future.
“He's a fine big horse, a good old mover and stays well.
“He handled the ease in the ground. It's not too bad just dead and the track is riding well.” - J P O'Brien, rider.
