A slashing track gallop by Dissident at Rosehill on Tuesday morning has given trainer Peter Moody confidence heading into the Group 3 $125,000 MTA NSW Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
The Melbourne premiership winning trainer has set the Sebring colt for the Group 1 $1m Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on September 14 and expects him to perform well after a pleasing midweek gallop.
Dissident worked with stablemate Stamina on Tuesday morning on the course proper and clocked 35.04s for the final 600m of the 1000m gallop, working to the line strongly.
“Sure it’s a tough race but he’s up there to have a crack at the Golden Rose and he’s going to have to meet them in that,” Moody told Racing Network.
Dissident showed early promise as a two year old and won his first start in a race in the Listed $120,000 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) (1000m) at Caulfield on January 26.
He then ran in the Group 1 $1m Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 23 but could only finish midfield behind Miracles Of Life.
At his first run back Dissident made up many lengths in the straight to finish second to Eurozone in the Listed $100,000 The Rosebud (1200m) at Randwick on August 10 and is coming up against the Northern Meteor colt again tomorrow.
Tim Clark was having his first ride on Dissident last start when he tailed off in the early stages but he is certain to be closer to the leaders on Saturday with Moody putting the blinkers back on.
Dissident is at the juicy odds of $14 with Golden Slipper runner-up Sidestep heading the market at $4.40 with the Chris Waller three year old Zoustar at $4.80.
