Over the past few weeks the headlines seem to be cluttered with stories about two young stallions making huge inroads into the Australian breeding scene.
It's been
I AM INVINCIBLE and SNITZEL sharing the glory and taking turns stealing the limelight from one another.
This afternoon it was
I AM INVINCIBLE who recaptured the headlines again thanks to
a pair of very impressive debut juvenile winners which has seen their sire
I Am Invincible move to
outright second position on the Leading Two Year Old Sires Premiership by winners.
I AM INVINCIBLE
I AM INVINCIBLE has now recorded 13 individual 2yo winners to his resume this season and sits just one winner behind premiership title leader SNITZEL with 14.
Exceed And Excel is in third position with 12 individual winners whilst
Not A Single Doubt sits in fourth spot with 10 winners.
First to record a victory today was the Toby Edmonds trained gelding
Always Sacred who was sent out favourite in the 1100 metre open 2yo event at Ipswich (Brisbane mid-week) and duly saluted scoring by about a length.
A $100,000 Magic Millions purchase,
Always Sacred was also bred by Yarraman Park and is a full brother to 2yo stakes-winner
Bassillique.
He is the fifth winner from the dam Sacred Hill, a half-sister to stakes-winner Pottinger and to Suggestive, the dam of Group 1 winner Sky Cuddle, Group winners Highly Recommended and Sky Love as well as stakes-winners Hint and Undeniably.
Also winning on debut today at Warwick Farm was the Waller trained
Miss Antaeu.
Bred by Yarraman Park, she was not offered for sale as a yearling. Her breeders retained her for racing and breeding and sent her into Waller to be trained.
"She’s been in and out a few times now, but has always shown plenty of ability and can go a long way” said Waller.
"I think she will be a very good speed filly. She’s the first runner and winner I’ve trained for Yarraman Park.
"I’ll talk to them about where we go next. Scone (a Listed race on Saturday week) is a possibility although it’s a 10 day turnaround, so we’ll have to see how she pulls up.”
Miss Antaeus is the last foal and sixth winner for stakes-placed Crestfallen, a half-sister to the dam of dual Group 1 winner Zoustar.
Waller also prepares
I AM INVINCIBLE’s best son to date in Brazen Beau.
"She actually reminds me a bit of Brazen Beau. She has the same sort of action,” Waller said.
Yarraman Park increased the service fee on I Am Invincible to $55,000 this year in the wake of his success and while some broodmare owners questioned the rise early in the season, subsequent events have vindicated their move and the stallion fee now looks a bargain.
BRAZEN BEAU
His best son
Brazen Beau has since won the Group 1 VRC Newmarket Handicap and will be retired to Darley Victoria this spring at a fee of $44,000, while his main rival in the Australian Second Season Sires List –
Medaglia D’Oro (USA), sire of Golden Slipper winner Vancouver, saw his fee double to $110,000.
In that context,
I Am Invincible looked under-priced and the market agreed as he is now fully booked for 2015.
I AM INVINCIBLE has now had 102 Runners – 62 Winners, 17 placed and 97 have earned prizemoney with 5 Stakes Winners and 7 stakes placegetters.
He’s the real deal !
