Suspended trainer Peter Moody had advised his owners at 11:00am on Friday morning of his intention to come back to training the day his 6 month suspension for cobalt ended.
However a day is a long time in politics and the racing industry and on Saturday Peter advised his inner circle clientele that he wouldn’t be returning in such a hurry – if he returns to training at all.
We received a call from Peter on Saturday afternoon advising us of his changed plans.
Peter followed up with a call on Sunday morning advising that his own horses were on the way to David Brideoake’s and Dynamic’s horses were on the same truck with his.
On Monday he announced to the balance of his clients in a broadcast email that he will step away from training horses for the "foreseeable future”.
Peter Moody will begin a six-month suspension on Thursday after the drawn-out Lidari cobalt case concluded last week but declared he would not return to training at the end of his ban.
The Caulfield trainer initially wanted Mornington horseman David Brideoake (fresh off winning a Group 1 at Rosehill on Saturday) to take over his stable for the six-month period and investigated the feasibility of the plan with Racing Victoria officials, including chief steward Terry Bailey.
However, the logistics of such a complex transfer was initially underestimated and with reality, Peter sent an email to all owners on Monday advising them of his decision after discussions with his family and senior staff.
"It is with much regret and a heartfelt decision that I have to inform you that I am going to recant my suggestion on Friday of where I said I would be back training in 6 months,” Peter wrote.
"After a lot of deliberation with my family and senior management staff, we didn’t feel it was going to be a viable or workable proposition to employ another trainer to care take the stable for the six month period of my suspension.
"RV worked with us at looking at putting it together, and it would have been possible but I just felt it was going to be very hard to make it workable and do the best by yourselves as the clients and more importantly by your horses.
"With this in mind I have made the ultimate decision that, at this point in time, I will not be returning to the training of racehorses in the foreseeable future.
"Maybe down the track this is something I will revisit whether it is in 12 months, 18 months or 2 years.”
Peter told the owners he would work "extremely hard” to find the right interim stable for the horses on his books, particularly the horses in training at his Caulfield stable.
Peter said he would not be lost to the industry, as he will continue to race many of the horses in which he has a share. The high majority of those Peter and Sarah Moody owned horses, have already arrived at David Brideoake’s stables.
From a Dynamic Syndications perspective, we had several horses with Peter at the time of his suspension. Along with Peter Moody, we too will be supporting David Brideoake in conjunction with our other major Victorian based trainer Mick Price.
Dynamic Syndications and Peter Moody have had a lot of racetrack success together over the years and Peter achieved for Team Dynamic the ultimate thrill, training REWARD FOR EFFORT to win the 2009 Blue Diamond Gr1.
Should Peter decide at any future date to return to training, Dynamic Syndications will be keen to place horses back into the expert horseman’s care.
On behalf of Team Dynamic, we thank Peter for his valuable contribution to our own success and the success he added to the Racing Industry as a whole and the bright light he shone on Australian racing with his horsemanship of Black Caviar. We wish Peter well in his future endeavours whichever direction he decided to follow his own dreams.
