Given his recent run of success,
Coolmore Stud’s UNCLE MO, the
exciting First Crop US Champion Sire elect, is a headline writers dream.
‘He’s got real Mo-Mentum’ is the latest one to come out of the states and one wouldn’t bet against the next attention grabber being something along the lines of;
‘Another Mo-Mentous Performance!’
UNCLE MO at Stud
The enthusiasm for Uncle Mo as a young sire is of course well merited and he added yet another stakes winner to his ever lengthening list of star progeny, when two year-old colt
Forevamo broke his maiden in the
Jean Lafitte Stakes (Listed Race) 1600m in the US at Delta Downs, New York on Saturday.
FOREVAMO winning the Jean Lafitte Stakes LR
Sent out a short priced favourite for the US$200,000 event following a pair of promising efforts at his first two starts,
Forevamo proved too strong in the run to the line to score by three-quarters of a length. He had to overcome his first experience on a heavy track, gave away a head start and this was his first race appearance under lights but was strong through the bridle all the way to the line to record a determined win.
He became the
14th individual winner from the first northern hemisphere crop of
Uncle Mo and his
5th individual stakes winner.
Uncle Mo is set to be represented at the prestigious Breeders’ Cup meeting at Keeneland by unbeaten dual Gr1 winning star
Nyquist, who is favourite for the US$2m G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
NYQUIST
A win for Nyquist would most likely see him crowned Champion two year-old for the season.
Also Uncle Mo himself is firmly on track to claim Champion First Crop Sire honours.
He is well clear of his closest pursuers in the race to be Champion First Crop Sire, having enjoyed a stellar season to date.
GOMO
UNCLE VINNY UNCLE BRENNIE
As well as
Nyquist, he has sired Gr1 winning filly
Gomo, the group winning, Gr1-performed colt
Uncle Vinny and stakes winner
Uncle Brennie.
However, it wasn’t just in the US that the record of Uncle Mo received a boost.
The form of his unbeaten Paul Perry trained daughter
Conchita was enhanced by the impressive win at Randwick on Saturday of Star Turn, a colt she had destroyed at the same course just two weeks earlier.
CONCHITA winning on debut at Randwick 18-10-15
Conchita is being targeted at the prestigious Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January.
Uncle Mo stands at Coolmore Australia at a fee of $16,500.
There are not many live foals by Uncle Mo in Australia having served conservative books in his first three seasons at stud.
There were only
63 live foals in his first crop (now 2yo’s) and
76 in his second crop which should prove a bonanza for breeders who have a nice yearling by the fashionable sire heading to the sales. His first crop yearlings averaged $45,000 this year however it will be significantly higher for his second crop progeny.
On the deeds of his stock in America now backed up in Australia,
UNCLE MO appears to be one of the best valued sires at stud in Australia.
