Coolmore have completed the purchase of a controlling interest in the unbeaten Golden Slipper winner Vancouver and are delighted the current owners are going to participate in his racing and stud career.
"There was obviously a massive amount of interest in the horse so we are delighted to have secured him,” said Coolmore’s Tom Magnier.
"He’s a brilliant colt and we and our partners, who include the China Horse Club, Ramsey Pastoral and Peters Investments, couldn’t be more excited about his future.
"Vancouver, along with another of our recent investments, Pride Of Dubai, serve to illustrate the long-term commitment of Coolmore to the Australian breeding industry.
Both of these wonderful racehorses were born and raised at our Jerrys Plains property in the Hunter Valley and are a ringing endorsement that there is no finer source of quality bloodstock.”
Interestingly, both Vancouver and Pride of Dubai are sired by Darley based stallions in Medaglia D’Oro (USA) and Street Cry (IRE), although both are from daughters of Coolmore’s breed shaping sire Danehill.
"Vancouver is a very good looking horse from a dominant sire line and just look at the record of Slipper winners at stud,” said Coolmore manager Michael Kirwan.
Current leading sires Sebring and Stratum are both Golden Slipper winners, while past star sires to have won the Slipper include the likes of Flying Spur, Danzero, Catbird, Canny Lad, Marauding, Rory’s Jester, Marscay, Luskin Star, Baguette and Vain.
The Gai Waterhouse trained Vancouver is unbeaten in four career starts to date, starting with a debut win in the Listed ATC Breeders Plate last spring and culminating with his Slipper triumph.
His Todman Stakes success saw him record the fastest 1200m ever run by a two year-old at Randwick, while his time for the Golden Slipper equalled that of Coolmore’s other Golden Slipper winning superstar, Pierro, whose first offspring will be offered at yearling sales in 2016.
