First season stallions
So You Think and
Smart Missile registered their first stakes winners in New Zealand and
Newgate Farm’s Foxwedge also passed that milestone across the Tasman when the filly
Volpe Veloce stormed clear in Saturday’s
Castletown Stakes LR at Wanganui.
Volpe Veloce
A smart winner by two and a quarter length when on debut at Matamata,
Volpe Veloce missed the Listed Equine Stakes (1100m) at Te Rapa due to a stone bruise.
She showed no ill effect of that in the Castletown Stakes.
Racing close to the pace, the daughter of
Foxwedge proved a class above her opponents storming clear to win by two and three-quarter lengths from Honey Rider (Pins) with Technician (Coats Choice) back in third.
"That was a big thrill, I’m shaking,” trainer Graham Richardson told The Informant.
"I don’t want to get too carried away, I’d prefer just to let her do the talking, but I hope and I think she has a pretty big future.”
"A lot of loyal owners have stuck by me with this filly, so I’m absolutely chuffed for them and also for the horse herself. She’s a good filly. I think she’ll be even better on top of the ground.”
A $240,000 purchase at the Karaka Premier Sale,
Volpe Veloce is a half-sister to Listed Black Opal Stakes winner Delago Bolt.
Her dam Bardego (Barathea) won the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview.
A full-sister to Volpe Veloce sold for $150,000 at this year’s Inglis Easter Yearling sale.
Group 1 William Reid Stakes winner Foxwedge covered 120 mares at Newgate Farm last spring at a fee of $27,500.
Foxwedge also added another smart winner to his tally with a debut victory for promising gelding
Mulder at Gawler last Wednesday.
Trained by Michael Hickmott, Mulder forged clear to win the 1111 metre event by half a length, despite not being comfortable in the slow conditions.
Foxwedge is building a very nice resume for himself and the Newgate Farm team and with industry expectations being that the progeny of
Foxwedge would be best as 3yo’s, his 2yo resume is looking very healthy with
9 winners and 11 placegetters including a Stakes Winner and 2 Stakes Placegetters.
He is the sixth winner (four in Australia, two in New Zealand) from the first Southern Hemisphere bred crop of foals by
Foxwedge, who also has three winners in the Northern Hemisphere including highly impressive Belmont winner Star Empire in the US.
A Group 1 winning son of Fastnet Rock, Foxwedge stands at Newgate Farm at a fee of $22,000 this spring.
Dynamic Syndications backed the sire purchasing 2 yearling fillies by him in 2015 and followed up with an impressive filly in 2016.
This year we purchased at the Magic Millions the FOXWEDGE / UNDERCOVER Filly with GERALD RYAN at ROSEHILL.
She has broken-in extremely well and appears far more precocious than the 2 fillies we purchased in 2015 who are giving us great confidence as we head into the Spring
That’s not surprising when you consider the depth of Black Type Quality of this filly’s family.
She is from a daughter of speed influence
Covetous and won 3 races -
2 at 2- and ran 4th in a 2yo Stakes Race at Flemington.
UNDERCOVER is a 3/4 sister to Stakes Placed
PATOU – dam of our
GOLDEN SLIPPER WINNER – POLAR SUCCESS.
POLAR SUCCESS
She is also a 1/2 sister to stakes winner
AIN’T SEEN NOTHIN’ - dam of Stakes Winners
BACHMAN, AIN’TNOFALLENSTAR and STEPITUP
UNDERCOVER is doing a wonderful job as a broodmare with 7 foals to race = 6 winners
She is a high quality filly with an outstanding trainer of 2yo’s in
Gerald Ryan and Gerald trained the very close relation
BACHMAN who was an outstanding Stakes Winning and stakes placed 2yo.
BACHMAN
Gerald Ryan and Dynamic Syndications have had a long association over many years and this filly is one of the most exciting we have had the opportunity to offer.
