Fresh from claiming his maiden Group 1 winning Trainer’s Title with the blistering victory of Red Tracer, Chris Waller has set his sights on breaking the all-time NSW Metropolitan Training record.
Waller who has enjoyed his best ever season, is now only 3 wins shy of breaking the record that was set back in 1975-76 by the all-conquering TJ Smith.
After being robbed of two opportunities within the past week to make the record his own courtesy of the big wet in NSW, Chris has a combined total of 25 accepted runners at the next two city meetings which starts today at Canterbury. With 10 metropolitan meetings scheduled between now and the end of the racing season, the all-powerful Waller stable appears to be in unprecedented territory.
As at Wednesday morning on the 26th of June, Chris Waller has trained:
153.5 Sydney Metropolitan Winners
173.5 Metropolitan Winners Australia Wide
211.5 Winners Australian Wide
"I try to place the horses where they can win," Waller said.
"That's my job. I can't change much but just keep trying to win money for the owners."
Waller recently opened a Melbourne stable to complement his large Rosehill operation and to help separate his horses so they are not always running against each other. However clashes are unavoidable and Waller makes no apologies for dominating the fields.
"Third and fourth prize money pays the bills," he said.
"Second prize money is outstanding and first pays for the training for a year.
"I could leave them at home but then I'm not doing my job for the owners."
Dynamic Syndications has supported the Chris Waller stable heavily in 2013 placing three ready to run 2yo’s and six yearlings in his care.
