SHE'S A ROCK STAR was facing the starter for her third run back this preparation and went out favourite as a Benchmark 74 horse in a Benchmark 75 Handicap. She started at the luxury odds of $3.00 in a small field. This was very generous indeed. After all, the mare last preparation had won two races in town including a Saturday race at Warwick Farm and ran a close up 4th in the Toy Show LR behind Red Tracer, Secret Admirer and Jerezana and at her final run was beaten just on two lengths in the Tibbie Stakes LR behind More Strawberries, Skyrush and Sweetest Melody.
That was outstanding form to be hitting a country benchmark 75.
Having run twice this preparation, first up when she went to Brisbane to the Falvelon Quality LR but that day the heavens opened up and the track went from a Dead 4 to a Heavy 9 during the programme and the mare got a long way back and was never a hope on a bog. She was then given the grandstand second up when beaten 4 lengths after she tired the last 100m.
A month between runs leading into this and placed to advantage and weighted well under the benchmark system, she was very well placed.
Fitter and ready to perform, she was ridden by Matthew Palmer who has done well for himself and team Dynamic since recently relocating down from Queensland to make Newcastle his home.
There was a story on Racing NSW website today about the top weight in the race Dane's Bullet, about how that trainer thought his horse could win and would lead.
Our speed map was spot on we believed we would get the gun run, one out one back and peel out at the top of the rise and be hard to hold out. The horse and rider both did their jobs well. Spotting the top weight about 4 lengths as they turned for home Matthew waited until the 300m before asking our mare to extend and she quickly dashed up to the leader and went on to score a widening half length margin.
Darren Smith is an outstanding horseman and had the mare fit, well and ready today. She's a rock star was a scratching on Anzac Day to be saved for this, whilst a nomination had been put in for the Hawkesbury meeting next Saturday but she will not be going on towards that.
She is nominated for the Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast in a month's time however she may have earned a reprieve with this effort. There are some wins still in store for this mare and we will look to place her to advantage in the coming weeks.
Well done to all the team.
