The Australian Turf Club transferred its Randwick meeting to Kembla Grange for Wednesday 28/12 and race 2, the Investment & Planning Services Maiden Plate 1200m was a Set Weights event for 3yo Fillies.
Trainer Chris Waller has always had a big opinion of the Dynamic Syndications 3yo filly TRICK SHOT by Al Maher from Desert Trick and she broke through for a well deserved win at her third start, having run second on debut at Kembla Grange and then showed her hoof was on the till when second at Canterbury Park having been unlucky in running from a wide draw. That night she was sensationally backed in from $26.00 to $7.00 and showed she has talent and the plunge almost came off.
Today with Corey Brown in the saddle, TRICK SHOT jumped beautifully from gate 2 and rolled forward to control the race in sizzling time. TRICK SHOT was rated perfectly by Corey who had the field spread out over a lot of ground after the first 300m. Given a breather in front from 800m to the 600m Corey was swinging off the filly such was his hold as they straightened. At the 300m, TRICK SHOT was being attacked for the lead but Corey had not let off the brakes. He asked the mare to rally at the 250m when she was headed by some challengers and the mare dug deep and sprinted hardest to the line to record a New Class Record time of 1:09.40 seconds sizzling home their last 600m in 33.19 seconds. Under the Set Weights conditions, mathematically no horse would have been able to run her down.
To give a guide as to the quality of the run for a 3yo filly, TRICK SHOT was not far outside the existing Track Record set by BENTLY BISCUIT at 1:08.62. Knowing she is a 3yo filly and was a maiden having her third race, to be so close to the track record and knowing she was able to lead and have a breather in the middle stages of the race adds to the incredible merit of her win.
TRICK SHOT has shown her trainer Chris Waller enough to suggest she may have a bit of a future. That statement is obvious in breaking 1:10.00 as a maiden to win at her third start having been placed second in both her previous runs. Now a City Winner and City Placed, the 3yo filly gives every indication she may be better still as the trip extends out to 7 furlongs or to a mile. So far, each of her 3 riders has suggested she will benefit later from the addition of blinkers as she is still a little green and has a bit to learn and she has several lengths improvement in her.
TRICK SHOT is by the ever consistent quality sire Al Maher whose progeny appreciate a little bit further, as he did as a racehorse. He's had 124 winners to date and already produced 10 Stakes Winners and 12 Stakes Placed runners. Dynamic have had terrific success with the bred including SP Acouplamas and Sydney Winner ICY MIST.
However it's on TRICK SHOT'S female pedigree she is exciting. TRICK SHOT'S dam DESERT TRICK is by Champion European sire Green Desert and was a winner of 6 races in Sydney from 1000m to 1500m.
