In what proved a wonderful day for internationally bred stayers and highlighted the lack of depth of the local product, yet again for the second time in as many years, the most coveted trophy in Australian Racing heads off shore as another French raider DUNADEN scores in a thrilling 2011 Melbourne Cup.
It's no surprise when you consider 85% of yearlings bred in Australia are genetically created for early sprint races up to 1600m whilst approximately just 10% are bred to run up to 2000m and no more than a mere handful are bred to run beyond 2400m.
The market is aware that if we can't beat them - join them! That's what Peter Moody and Dynamic have done!
As the field filed across the finishing line, Dunaden had won by a pimple over the gallant Red Cadeaux whilst the run of the race and the certainty beaten, last years winner, the French wonder horse Americain was beaten a lip back into fourth spot. 8 of the first 10 across the line were from overseas.
As the French say "C'est magnifique". This second French victory was even more deserving of a loud rendition of Le Marseillaise than Americain's win.
It was billed as the internationals' Cup and that's how it panned out. The raiders dominated Australia's signature race like never before. In fact this is beyond dominance, this is a thoroughbred stampede that will continue for years to come as long as these raiders keep returning to Flemington, especially if the laid back French keep coming.
So there are 2 schools of thought. Do we as a racing population roll over and take it or fight fire with fire! As a proud Australian company, Dynamic Syndication's are looking at ways to compete.
This year Peter Moody and Dynamic have formed a strategic alliance to hopefully compete on even terms over the coming years. Our first attempt was to identify pedigrees capable of competing at the elite staying trips and then polish the horse into a contender.
We have achieved the first part of the formula. We have the horse. Our Commands colt from the French bred mare Rossiya (FR) is the right horse with the right pedigree to do the job. Bred to run at least 2400m he will be targeted at the Guineas and Derbies as a 3yo and then polished into a hopeful cups contender at 4, 5 and 6.
With a brilliant pedigree chock full of international stakes winners at the middle distance and staying trips, if owners want to live a dream of winning these big money races then this is a horse to consider.
Commands needs no introduction. Champion Australian Sire and the most prolific sire of winners across Australia and known for siring Gr1 winners at 2400m already, when we combine this son of Danehill with this daughter of Machiavellian, we have a colt to take on the invading raiders with an A, 246% pedigree rating that has produced 8 Stakes Winners already.
Add in the silky skills of Australia's leading trainer Peter Moody then we have a set of circumstances where we have a great advantage to achieve success.
If you want to become part of the Spring Carnival in Melbourne in the years to come then you should consider joining Peter Moody and us and race the colt in partnership.
