A Sydney Cup start awaits the Chris Waller-trained Permit after his tough win in the Listed N E Manion Cup (2400m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The imported stayer has gained a new zest for racing since moving from the Mike Moroney stable in Melbourne and Saturday's win was his second from five Sydney runs.
Chris Waller said the black type win confirmed to the trainer that the horse is on the right path heading towards Sydney Carnival's $600,000 finale at Randwick on April 28.
"He needed to peak today to suggest he was up to this class as I'm looking towards the Sydney Cup with him," Waller said. "Now we need him to go to another level but hopefully he can."
"It was a good win," Waller said. "He got a bit tired late but hey, it's not his grand final."
Earlier in the day outstanding sire ENCOSTA DE LAGO proved his well earned Champion Stallion tag again, when his 3yo son NIAGARA made a one act affair of the AJAX Stakes Gr2.
Then last season's Champion Sire LONHRO added his reputation to the days record sheets via the deeds of his daughter CELTS who produced a determine effort to win the Gr3 BIRTHDAY CARD Stakes.
The Gr2 Pago Pago for the 2yo colts was won by Black Caviar's 1/2 brother ALL TOO GOOD by a length over the very talented EXCEED AND EXCEL 2yo colt NARCISSUS.
The Gr2 Magic Night for the 2yo fillies was a well deserved win by quality filly ICHIHARA who did all the hard work and was left a sitting target for the swoopers but she dug deep when she was stuck in the worse part of the track. The field of B Grade fillies behind her had no excuses, they all had their chances but were not good enough.
It was a top day's racing at Rosehill and congratulations to the ATC.
Dynamic Syndications are currently offering a superb filly by LONHRO ex FINE SOCIETY with Sydney's Leading Trainer CHRIS WALLER.
With Racing NSW win in the High Court last Friday and prize money set to reach record highs you owe yourself the opportunity to invest in this quality filly with exceptional residual value.
