It doesn’t surprise us at
Team Dynamic because of all the hard work undertaken when progressing through the due diligence aspects of yearling selection.
However, when
Australian Olympian Shane Rose, owner of Bimbadeen Park tells us that we have a horse that finished
“Dux of the Class” naturally we get excited.
Shane Rose - proprietor of Bimbadeen Park and Australia Olympian
So, imagine how
upbeat we are to hear from Shane Rose that our latest two yearlings to complete his breaking-in and early education training phases are both
“outstanding athletes and he can’t split them.”
Then he offers us a report card stating that they were
“both rated 9.5 out of 10.”
One of two things are happening;
it’s an either-or situation.
They are: Shane Rose, one of the best horsemen in the Southern Hemisphere is
(a) “becoming soft” in his ratings or
(b) we actually have two way above average young horses.
Knowing Shane Rose as well as we do, he is a quietly spoken, deep thinking horseman, who says it how it is, warts and all, no sugar coatings. Always polite and extremely respectful, he tells us what we need to know, never want we want to hear.
Shane tells us straight away those youngsters that are natural born equine athletes and
feel like a Ferrari, compared to those that are
up-market Commodores or those youngsters that hit the ground hard, with short choppy actions, that feel more like a
clapped-out base model Hyundai.
So, when Shane rates a yearling
9.5 out of 10, that’s actually
Shane’s Top Score.
Shane has never rated a horse a 10.
By his own admission, he lives in hope that one day a yearling may be able to achieve this but as yet,
9.5 is a “Dux of the Class” rating.
Both these yearlings came from the
Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and have completed their early education with glowing report cards.
“I can’t split them, they’re both outstanding.” Shane reported.
As part of our full disclosure policy, we pass this report to our Owners and followers this important information.
Whilst there are no formal guarantees to racetrack success due to many variables,
we would much rather start out with a “Dux” than a “Dunce.”
Both yearlings are heading into the care of
leading co-trainers CIARON MAHER and DAVID EUSTACE.
Shane was so impressed with these two yearlings, that he asked his wife Nikki to a video the horses under saddle for us but this time, Shane put them through
“extra action footage” of a trot then a canter, including slow motion footage to show us their gait before asking the yearlings to work together on the sand track and then, jumping out of the education barriers.
Frosted x Antarctic Miss colt from Dynamic Syndications on Vimeo.
So, which two yearlings were they?
Our GREY COLT by FROSTED (USA) x ANTARCTIC MISS (NZ)
Our BROWN FILLY by DEEP FIELD x ZARINIA (IRE)
This is comforting but certainly not surprising because every horse we select for purchase, we do so in the hope to achieve this start to their careers.
So, what similarities do these yearlings share?
Both are by Sires that were brilliantly fast racehorses.
FROSTED is the Champion Son and the Best Son of Champion USA Sire TAPIT. Our colt is from his first crop of yearlings.
ANTARCTIC MISS was a Gr3 Winner and she was Gr1 Placed and is a proven broodmare with 4 foals to race for 2 city winners (1 stakes-performed) and also a placegetter.
DEEP FIELD who’s oldest are only 3yo’s, simply can’t do anymore. He is Australia’s leading sire for 3YO Winners and Australia’s leading Second Crop Sire by Winners.
ZARINIA was unraced but has produced 6 to race - 5 winners including an absolute Champion in South Africa named IGUGU. She won 10 races – 4 at Gr1 level and was their Horse of the Year. Also, ZARINIA has produced a Gr3 Winner, next a Listed Winner, then a Gr3 placed horse and also an unraced filly that has produced a Gr2 Winner.
Both our yearlings are brilliantly bred, with highly commercial pedigrees but more important, they are genetically balanced pedigrees. They are both by top sires from excellent mares.
So, its now up to
Ciaron Maher and David Eustace to polish them into being able to deliver on the racetrack the best they can. However, the boys are off to a flying start having yearlings of this quality and having completed their education is such a fantastic fashion.
