There has been a
significant trend in 2020 to support
new season sires and it’s easy to understand why when 2017 saw a brilliant group of Freshman Sires cover their first book of mares.
With the price of yearlings for the big two
I AM INVINCIBLE and
SNITZEL now seeming out of reach for the high percentage of buyers, the strong middle-market which have seen prices climb, have thrown their weight behind the new boys and rightly so, especially the very strong sprinting brigade.
Year upon year, it’s the Australian bred and raced first crop sires having led the way in the yearling sales but this year the market has
equally supported shuttle sires with the flash colonials.
In fact, the
top two (2) sires on averages and median this year are
American Pharoah (USA) and
Shalaa (IRE).
Coolmore’s Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (USA) (109 Live Foals) has been leading the way based on both racetrack performance and his
$66,000 service fee. He has been the leading first season sire by averages at three main sales to date.
Coolmore also have the progeny of
Air Force Blue (USA) (58 Live Foals) hitting the market off a
$16,500 Service Fee. He suffered fertility issues and only has a small crop, but they have been well sought after and have offered excellent Returns on Investment for their breeders.
Market leaders
Arrowfield Stud must be thrilled with the results they are receiving on their exciting first season sire
Shalaa (IRE) who stood at
$33,000 (133 Live Foals).
Among the colonial boys, Newgate Farm’s
Capitalist with a
$55,000 Service Fee
(164 Live Foals) and
Extreme Choice $38,500 (48 Live Foals) have proven to be hot commodities.
Vinery Stud will be pleased with the reception of
Star Turn $22,000 (115 Live Foals)
Darley with Astern
$38,500 would also be well satisfied.
(112 Live Foals)
Whilst Aquis Farm’s
Divine Prophet Service Fee
$22,000 (100 Live Foals) is statistically upon
ROI is the market leader with a massive
6.8 times service fee upon the Median price of his sold yearlings.

In 2020 Dynamic Syndications have purchased yearlings by six (6) different and very exciting First Crop Sires.
Each sire we have chosen has been based upon their brilliant 2yo ability and their genetic capability with the mares from which the yearling is produced.
They also represent excellent value when considering the commerciality of their female family and especially as the sale season has progressed at the averages and the median across all sales have increased.
