genetic balance of a pedigree is as vitally important as the
conformation of the individual horse.
That’s what set’s
Dynamic Syndications apart and delivers us the incredible strike rate of success we enjoy.
Statistically, we have identified after years of research that
approximately 20% of the thoroughbred population
wins 76% of the
Stakes Races whilst
80% produces
24% of
Stakes Races.
For ease of explanation there are approximately
13,000 foals born per annum.
So
20% is 2,600 yearlings and
80% is 10,400.
Last season there were
580 Stakes Races in Australia, that represents
441 (76%) Races are won by horses from
20% (2,600 yearlings) of the foal crop whilst the remaining
139 (24%) Races were won by horses that came from the balancing
80% (10,400) of the foal crop.
Therefore the
quality of the racehorse has as much to do with
genetic patterns as it does with
conformation - we only want to buy horses rated within the top 20%.
To identify the top 20% of horses of each foal crop, we review the horses on breeding by
specific formulas into the following
6 categories:
A / B / C / D / F / 0
We further divide these categories into
12 sub-categories:
A+++, A++, A+, A : B+, B : C+, C : D+ D- : F & 0.
With
B+ and above being the
top 20%.
C 0% is considered statistical average - the cross is
no better or worse than any other cross.
F =
Unsuccessful
0 = No Stakes Winners bred on the cross - mainly based upon lack of opportunity due to minimal to no replication.
The percentage figure recorded for horses less than
A+++ refers to a variant of increased likelihood from average (0%) that the mating, may possibly produce a
Black Type success.
To give the reader an understanding of how the genetics impacts on the quality of the racehorses, this 2021 edition of the Golden Slipper is a classic example of why we are so diligent in pedigree evaluations prior to physical inspections at yearling sales.
