Three of the past four Gr1 JJ Atkins winners won in Sydney at their previous start but that statistic may still not be enough to convince Godolphin to send their stunning winner
Kementari north for next month's $600,000 Group 1 feature.
Kementari wins the opening race at Randwick by 4 lengths on Saturday
Kementari drifted to start $5.50 in the Seven News Plate (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday but gave his supporters no need to worry.
Kementari is without doubt his father's son. There is nothing better in racing to behold a Lonhro in full flight. There is little doubt that Kementari has the look of a Guineas winner about him in the Spring. Can you imagine how stunning he will be when he gets up to a mile trip?
LONHRO
The exciting son of Champion Racehorse and Sire LONHRO was conceding race experience to most of his peers but emerged a dominant four length victor.
He jumped well, led briefly before taking the box seat tracking the leading pair Easy Go Easy Win and Sambro in the early stages until the field swung for home. He shouldered his way clear and at the 300m exploded away for an emphatic win.
Romantic Touch (2013), Almalad (2014), Press Statement (2015) have also won in Sydney before heading north to claim the JJ Atkins (1600m) at their next start.
Jason Walsh representing the Godolphin team said a decision on a Brisbane start for
Kementari would be made in the coming days, however jockey Tye Angland who won the JJ Atkins aboard Press Statement was of the opinion that the magnificent colt would be better again next preparation.
"He's still untapped. I think he's still a bit immature but he's got the ability there," Angland said.
"He won't reach his peak this preparation. He could be competitive in Brisbane but I reckon he'll be a whole lot better horse when he comes back next preparation (Spring 3yo).
"He had a good look at the winning post so he's still working it all out."
Despite the fact that Angland thinks the colt is a preparation away, it didn’t stop bookmakers slashing his price from $15 into $4 for the 2017 JJ Atkins, to be run at Eagle Farm on June 10.
LONHRO was the "peoples champion" as a racehorse winning 26 races with 11 Gr1 wins amongst that tally.
At stud, he went on with the job being crowned Champion Australian Sire.
Now he has 730 winners including 66 stakes-winners (8 Gr1 Winners) and 61 stakes-placed horses including PIERRO, EXOSPHERE and DENMAN amongst his progeny.
Dynamic Syndications on Friday afternoon launched our latest syndication.
