This was a quality filly with Clean X-Rays and a Grade 1 Scope. We have known the breeder Ian Smith of Edinburgh Stud for many years and watched him develop this female family up nicely, producing horses such as ELEVEN ELEVEN and GLENFIDDICH.
This filly has been deliberately purchased to be a miler as a 3yo. However on type, the mile races as a 2yo could be in her target zone. There are some lovely black-type races to target a filly with this pedigree.
We knew the breeder had set a modest reserve of just $80,000 on their filly as they needed to cover their cash flow for the Service Fee and holding costs. Anticipating the filly would sell well over $120,000, (which was a fair assumption), they placed the low reserve expecting her to sail past the reserve price.
We really liked the filly as a bargain priced prospect, believing she would be a super buy at that price point. So we engineered our bidding process to ensure it was our bid that landed on the reserve price of $80,000 in the sale ring. We were surprised, then delighted when the hammer fell to our bid of just $80,000 + GST ($88,000).
In summation, we have achieved our goals. We had several other prospects on our list on Day 1 but unfortunately their reserve prices were set well above our ceiling valuations, and we just watched them enter and leave the salering either passed-in or with a new owner.
We have many other horses identified and waiting on our list over the coming days and we are anticipating adding additional horses to our stable.
Stay Tuned!
