REWARD FOR EFFORT - In Flight
This will be
REWARD FOR EFFORT’S first crop. He has 102 live foals on the ground from his first season at stud and the wraps have been huge about his progeny from the Sales Companies that have been working across various farms, identifying his stock for the different sales.
If ever a stallion has the opportunity to be a racetrack success through the deeds of his progeny,
REWARD FOR EFFORT seems to have his destiny assured to become a leading sire.
This is as a result of the exceptionally clever book of mares the sire received from various astute breeders.
Naturally being priced with an
$11,000 service fee, it was going to restrict the number of Black-Type performers and producers the stallion would receive, simply as breeders want to receive higher multiples from more expensive service fees.
However what
REWARD FOR EFFORT may have missed out upon in Black-Type mares has been amazingly offset by the clever way the breeders have sent the right genetic mares to cross with him. This has significantly multiplied his chance of success and producing black type runners.
Through our own research, we are aware that statistically,
72% of Stakes Winners in the general horse population have been derived from just
20% of the horse population. Conversely that means 80% of the horse population produces just 28% of the Stakes Winners.
So it’s a simple equation. Where would you want to buy a yearling from ? Which subset appeals the most ? Naturally the answer is the better opportunities are going to come from the 20% of the population that produce 72% of the Stakes Winners !
When we analyse a catalogue, we divide the matings
(Sire over Broodmare Sire) into 5 categories ranked on the merit of proven racetrack results. These subsets are graded
A – B – C – D – F. With A being the proven crosses, all the way down to F for fail. An F is a cross that has been replicated many times and has a statistically poor record of producing any high quality racehorses.
It’s a statistical fact that in the past decade,
72% of Stakes Winners have come from this A subset. Therefore we only consider buying yearlings based upon our own research, that are members of the A subset.
We have been amazed over the past few days when researching the
REWARD FOR EFFORT progeny becoming available for sale. What we have noticed was the exceptionally good genetic matings this son of Exceed And Excel has been supported with. Astute breeders have sent mares by sires known to cross well with Danehill and his son Exceed And Excel.
From the
37 yearlings on offer a massive
30 are genetically so well bred that they were selected for the A subset, whilst another
4 were right on the cusp of making it into A grade but just missed out.
Of the 30 that made A grade, we gave 7 yearlings an A++ score, another 7 yearlings an A+ score and 16 yearlings an A score.
Only 3 yearlings we consider were bred to a cross which statistically is not an acceptable risk for us to purchase because the cross hasn’t worked to date.
With 30 of the 37 yearlings being in A grade, that represents a staggering
81.1% of REWARD FOR EFFORT yearlings have the genetic foundations to be a successful racetrack performers.
Our research data can’t recall when any first season stallion has received such a great head start genetically.
REWARD FOR EFFORT - The day Dynamic Syndications purchased the colt for $190,000 at the INGLIS Melbourne Premier Sale
Whilst genetics are incredibly important, it only forms a portion of the overall evaluation. The yearling must also be physically well conformed and athletic. From the yearlings we have seen ourselves by the sire and with the reports we have received from experts,
REWARD FOR EFFORT should have a terrific sale and breeders should be well satisfied in the sale ring. If his progeny race up to their looks and pedigree’s the sire could easily become the leading first season sire.
EXCEED AND EXCEL - Champion Sire 2012-13
With
EXCEED AND EXCEL being
Champion Sire last season and then we look at the immediate success of Exceed and Excel’s first son at stud
WILANDER, who is off to a flying start from limited numbers (due to fertility issues), it appears that
EXCEED AND EXCEL will create a much needed new
Danehill line dynasty.
REWARD FOR EFFORT served a book of
150 mares in his first season and
173 mares in his second season. His third season looks to be equally as strong and reports are the stallion will cover between
175-180 mares again this season.
Now it’s the turn of the professional buyers to take control and add
Reward For Effort's to their stables.
REWARD FOR EFFORT – WORTH THE EFFORT.
