The
FINAL Day of the
2002/21 Racing Season was on Saturday 31/7, and we capped off a Record Season in fine style for our
Dynamic Syndications Owners.
It was
symmetry, that young gun trainer
WILL FREEDMAN should be the trainer of our
3yo gelding BAXTER (Scissor Kick ex Miss Bax) as our horse scored a
courageous win in Race 1, the Blue Gem Contracting 1600m Class 1 & Maiden Plate.
BAXTER winning the Blue Gem Contracting 1600m Class 1 at Moree 31/7/21.
Congratulations to WILL FREEDMAN who took out his training licence 12 months earlier, at the start of the season.
Dynamic Syndications supplied
WILL with his
First Winner TIME TO DAZZLE, and along the way we supplied
WILL with his milestones of his
10th Winner, 20th Winner and a Winner on the Final Day to see the
WILL close the season with a total of
23 WINS with 28 Placings from 156 Starters.
The polish WILL has put on BAXTER is obvious. WILL took over the training of our 3YO this preparation and
WILL has recorded 2 WINS from 3 Starts.
BAXTER looks a treat pre-race heading out onto the track
BAXTER won first-up over an unsuitable 1250m on a Heavy 8 at Taree and then, second up at 1600m on a Heavy 9 surface,
BAXTER got shuffled too far back in the run and couldn’t make-up ground on a worn surface.
BAXTER was third-up at 1600m on Saturday, back on top of the ground on a Good 4 rated surface, staying at 1600m under the Set Weights of a Class 1 & Maiden Plate.
BAXTER looked ideally placed and
WON the race based upon
fitness, courage, class and toughness.
BAXTER wins at Moree 31/7/21
Ridden by
BEN LOOKER, BAXTER was carrying 57.5kgs and was sent out as an easing $4.40 favourite and didn’t let his Team of Dynamic Owners down.
Having drawn Barrier 1, that was not ideal for a get back horse that likes to run on in his races, so it was going to require a tactically good ride from Ben to get the job done.
To ensure we didn’t get shuffled too far back behind slow competitors when trapped on the fence, Ben was asked to be as positive as possible on
BAXTER for the first furlong to maintain a position closer to the lead, before allowing
BAXTER to settle and get into a rhythm.
As the gates crashed back,
BAXTER flew the lids to land in the lead after the first 50m, however the pace was on, as there was a charge for the lead with at least 6 runners wanting pole position. And passing the 1400m marker, Ben had to ease out of that battle, landing mid-field on the fence in 7th position, 3.5 lengths off the leaders who were going hard upfront.
It was a truly run race from that point and no change in order as they passed the 800m pole, but
BAXTER was now 6 lengths off the pace on the fence.
Passing the 600m, the tempo was increased, and at that point
BAXTER was left a little flat footed. Ben gave
BAXTER a couple of reminders to go forward, and
BAXTER got into his work as they field swung the home turn.
Staying on the fence Ben saved valuable ground as the leaders were still some 5 lengths in front as the field balanced for the 380m run home.
At the 300m
BAXTER had narrowed the gap to 3 lengths on the three in front of him as he gave chase and at this point, Ben eased out two off the fence into galloping room. He had two runners ahead and one to his outside and it was going to take courage from
BAXTER to drive through the gap.
BAXTER in control the final stages
Passing the 200m Ben sent
BAXTER to charge through the gap but the horse to his outside laid-in to close out the gap. However, Ben kept driving through and
BAXTER had to be brave and force his way into the rightful running he had established. He lost valuable momentum at that point but would not be denied. Still half a length away at the 50m but with galloping room, stride by stride
BAXTER wore down the margin on the leader.
With 25m to go,
BAXTER got to the lead and with the urgings of Ben in the saddle,
BAXTER dug deep to hold off the runner-up.
BAXTER hit the line strongly to post a 0.2 length WIN over Sure Strategy (55.5kgs) with third place filled by Jousting (56.5kgs) another 0.2 length back.
Any other horse with a weaker mind, or any other horse that wasn’t presented in such excellent order would not have won. This was terrific judgement by Ben Looker and a gutsy win by
BAXTER.
BEN LOOKER returns BAXTER to the Winner's Stall to be greeted by WILL FREEDMAN
