A Second Impressive Winner for CALYX as Daughter Enters Royal Ascot Calculations

Persian Dreamer (2f Calyx - Surprisingly, by Galileo) became the second winner for boom first crop sire CALYX (GB) in the Northern Hemisphere, and in the process shapes up as a serious Royal Ascot contender when making a hugely impressive debut at Newmarket on Wednesday.

A €145,000 yearling buy was well-supported for the fillies’ maiden over five furlongs, in a field of nine runners. Persian Dreamer cruising into the lead approaching the final furlong quickened clear to score by three and a quarter lengths.

Speaking after the race, her Trainer said, “She is a nice quality filly, and she has always shown a bit of class at home. Royal Ascot is the target. She is not an out-and-out early five-furlong two-year-old and is well up in my pecking order. Certainly, of the fillies she is the best.”

Persian Dreamer’s impressive debut saw her crowned a ‘Rising Star’ by the TDN.

The filly’s breeder, Diamond Creek Farm’s Adam Bowden said, “We love the mare, and we loved the filly. I have been a huge fan of Kingman since he was a racehorse and Calyx was a brilliantly fast son of his. We were looking for a first-crop speed horse for the mare and she was boarded at Coolmore in Ireland. It fit the plan and it has worked out to perfection so far.”

Calyx enjoyed another terrific result at the nearby Tattersalls sales after the races concluded, when Middleham Park Racing went to 140,000gns (A$260,000) for a Calyx colt offered by Knockanglass Stables.
