AMPLIFY Announces She is on Target for Black Type Opportunities
AMPLIFY Announces She is on Target for Black Type Opportunities

This week’s
ATC Mid-Week Metropolitan meeting
was transferred to Wyong, and Team Dynamic sent our promising
Ciaron Maher trained
middle-distance style 3yo filly
AMPLIFY
(Microphone ex Se Sauver (Bel Esprit))
to the sport to contest Race 4 the PBL Law Handicap over 1600m. This was a
lucrative
$100,000
Super Maiden
event where we picked-up a combined
$59,250
thanks to a
$48,000
first prize and a
$11,250
BOBS Bonus.
Ridden by
Tim Clark
, our filly swept around the field from seven lengths last at the 400m and despite being hampered at the 100m by the eventual runner-up, she finished far too strongly to grab victory in the shadows of the post defeating the males into second and third over the 1625m trip.
AMPLIFY
ran the 1625m on a Good 4 in a Time of
1:38.15
with a Last 600m:
34.25.
AMPLIFY
3yo Filly (T. Clark) (55.5kgs) ($3.90 Second Fav) defeated BENDRODT 3yo gelding (N. Rawiller) (57.5kgs) ($3.80 Fav) by 0.22 length with EXISTENTIAL BOB 3yo gelding (J. McDonald) (57.5kgs) ($7.0) 0.25 length third.
Things didn’t go to plan here but having a quality rider on top who is in form, is a major advantage. We had expected to be away quickly from the machines and land on speed or trail the leader in what looked to be on paper a slowly run race. However, that all went belly-up as the gates crashed back and our mare decided to dawdle out and as a result, settled at the rear of the field.
That was a major disadvantage in the run because Tim then had to settle our filly into a rhythm as the field had spread out over about 8 lengths by the time, they were passing the 1000m.
Tim took his medicine however he was a long way from the leaders, four pairs back, stuck on the fence, with the longshot her outside, who moved up and around, leaving the third of the three Waller runners the only horse tucking in behind us.
Unfortunately, the leaders were peeling off slow early sectionals and that is a disaster if your back in the ruck because it becomes a sprint off the front, making it traditionally (and mathematically) very hard to make up any ground.
To put things into perspective, off an easy time up on the speed, EXISTENTIAL BOB was sitting at the girth of the leader CHA CHA CHA, some 8 lengths in front of us. The runner-up BENDRODT was sitting 4th tracking EXISTENTIAL BOB with cover, 6 lengths in front of us.
AMPLIFY
had to give them a big head start and the field sizzled home in 34.25 so our filly’s closing sectionals would have been around 33.65 which for 1625m is simply unheard of for this class at this trip.
Tim waited until the 400m to steer off the paint and start to improve whilst the leaders had pushed the go button and the race was on. Tim balanced up at the 300m and into the straight angled out widest on the straight. At the 200m we were still two lengths off the leaders and looking a forlorn hope.
Then James McDonald’s mount shifted out and took Nash wide and bumped us causing
AMPLIFY
to lose momentum. However, our Dynamic Duo unfurled a blistering last 200m to reel in the leaders and go on by to record a strong and gutsy win.
JOB DONE!
Sky Channel’s Gavin Carmody immediately summed up the race after they crossed the line, saying:
“AMPLIFY
will get up on the outside here, comes over the top of them. Well backed at her third start. So
AMPLIFY
by Microphone, this filly takes it out under the urgings of Tim Clark.
“It was a good finish, EXISTENTIAL BOB and BENDRODT given every chance after getting into the box seat there, but a good, good finish.
AMPLIFY
over the top of them will defeat BENDRODT who will get second a breath in front of EXISTENTIAL BOB and then further back Char Char Char's run a bit of a cheeky race out in front although beaten into fourth spot.
AMPLIFY,
it was her day today!”
Then Mick Wallace from Sky Channel added:
“Yeah, the three of the big guns in the market fighting it out to.
AMPLIFY,
there was good late support for this galloper who's just arrived in the nick of time. A lovely timed ride there by Tim Clark, who's got up on the outside to beat BENDRODT, who got the perfect run in transit, was one out, one back, was produced at the right time, and it looked the likely winner, but has come up just short. EXISTENTIAL BOB first up from a spell today, so it's obviously plenty of improvement to come. I thought that was a nice return and we touched on the run there of Char Char Char, it was up on top of the speed and offered a good kick at the furlong and it was probably only the last 50 metres or so where that galloper was gunned down late.
“There would have only been about ahead separating the first three across the line, but
AMPLIFY
prevails, lovely ride from Tim Clark.”
Gavin Carmody chimed back in and says:
“
So the filly by Microphone out of a Bel Esprit mare at her third start, up to 1625m wins at start 3 today. She's gone an overall time of 1:38.15. And the last six hundred metres have come home in 34.25 the last 600 metres. A half neck by a short half head in a thriller, and it wasn't that great deal about margin back and forth with the mare Cha Cha Cha as the winner comes back. Tim Clark on board this girl. She ran fifth at Canterbury at her first start in a race over 1250m. Up to the 1500m in a Super Maiden there at Rosehill Gardens beaten about four and a half lengths and today, up a little bit further in trip to 1625m and she’s getting more experience under her belt with every run, and she’s won today, over BENDRODT whose day will come now six places from eight runs and a win just eludes him for the moment.
"EXISTENTIAL BOB who was good first up off a break over the 1625 this afternoon and number eight winds up in fourth spot CHA CHA CHA, a mare by Churchill for Craig Carmody, as Timmy Clark unsaddles the winner after taking out race number four in 1:38.15 and 34.25 the last six hundred metres. The margins a half neck by a short head.
“We will hear from Tim Clark after this girl’s win today. She was great late, wasn't she? To pick them up? She's just getting that little bit better each time we see her Tim”
Tim Clark began his response by saying:
“Yeah, that's right, and obviously it didn’t exactly go to plan. We were expecting to be a bit closer in the run, but she just didn't begin that great. That is, I sort of just rode her where she landed and she switched off well in a in a slowly run race, which had me somewhat concerned. But she’s done a really good job come from where she did to get over the top of them.”
Gavin then said:
“She was great late, wasn't she, to pick them up?”
Tim responded:
“Yeah it suggests she will even stretch out over bit further.”
Gavin then inquired:
“Would she be better on a bigger track do you think?
Tim said:
“That that won't hurt her either. But yeah, she's still a bit hot, you can see she just gets herself a little worked up, so the more races she does the better she's going to be. But she’s probably still six to twelve months off.
Gavin then said
“Good job. There he is, Tim Clark taking out the 4th event on the programme.”
Whilst it was a
city win
and a Super Maiden worth
terrific prizemoney
and the fact she is now a city winner and a daughter of
SE SAUVER - a Gr2 Winner
, is satisfying enough. However, it is the last 600m of the race that is mind blowing and have her ownership team excited for the future.
The field ran home in a very slick 34.25 for the last 600m. However, it’s the individual splits by
AMPLIFY
that have the wow factor for the ratings men, and highlights what an amazing performance she put in.
AMPLIFY
ran her final 600m in
33.65 secs.
Her final 400m in a sizzling
22.25 secs
. From the 400m to the 200m she peeled off an
11:00
and a final 200m to the line in
11:25.
Milers just don’t run that fast unless they show exceptional natural talent. To think that our filly did this at just her third career start is amazing.
