Newcastle trainer JASON DEAMER took our Dynamic Syndications Owners of AWESOME LAD (6yo g by I AM INVINCIBLE from SENSIBLE LADY (USA)), into the Winners Circle at Hawkesbury on Wednesday afternoon, where on a Good 3 surface our DYNAMIC DUO Won Race 5 the SKY RACING SUMMER PROVINCIAL SERIES - HEAT 2 – a Class 5 Plate over 1500m and banked the $21,000 Winners Cheque.
With the luxury of being able to carry a 0.5kg over his handicap to allow us to place our “go-too” jet pilot NASH RAWILLER in the saddle, AWESOME LAD franked the form of his last start second placing in a field of 20 runners in the $500,000 Four Pillars at Rosehill 11 days prior.
AWESOME LAD took his Career Record to: 23 Starts: 4 Wins : 7 Seconds : 4 Thirds & $250,095.
AWESOME LAD is a “bit of a thinker” and certainly “camera shy” as highlighted in his raceform with seven runner-up cheques with most of these being wins he threw away by failing to attack the winning post. However, with NASH on top here at Hawkesbury, our equine ATM wasn’t going to be given the opportunity to get away with his raceday shenanigans as NASH was in control.
This was a Class 5 event (restricted to horses that had not won more than 5 races) and under the weight scale, AWESOME LAD was only a Class 3 horse (3 wins) so had a luxury of 56.0ks.
At this time of year, NASH struggles with his weight and can only get to 56.5kgs which our team were glad to give away to get the top hoop aboard.
When acceptances came out, there were only 8 runners for the event and when we did our form, under weights and measures we had him rated a $1.90 hope. Then incredibly, there were 3 scratchings from the race leaving it a field of just 5 starters and our form analyst rated him a $1.40 chance against his peers.
The only risk we considered was our horse himself. Would his mind wander again and switch off and let a lesser horse win? However we had comfort that we had NASH steering and he would not allow that to happen.
On the way to the barriers the horse was a luxury price of $1.90 in the small field as punters thought he may throw it away. As they milled behind the machines he came into $1.80 and then a sensation occurred. The second favourite Lemaire, who finished behind us in the Four Pillars and met us 3.0kgs (2 lengths) worse this time, put on a performance and refused to load and was declared a late scratching. We were down to a field of just 4 runners and AWESOME LAD price firmed into $1.40.
Our speed map had Sonic Tycoon wanting to lead, and we would tuck in behind it knowing it was underdone and would struggle to get the trip.
As the gates flung back the race panned out as predicted with Rachel King taking off too quick (again) on Sonic Tycoon and Nash let her go slotting in behind. After they had run 300m Sonic Tycoon was 2 lengths in front to AWESOME LAD, who was 2 lengths in front of Five Crowns with Shaka Rock at its girth. Passing the 900m Rachel increased the tempo and went 3 lengths in front whilst Nash sat quietly letting that runner do its work and over race up front as the two runners behind us closed in to be at our heels.
As they came up to the home turn, Sonic Tycoon tried to lift the tempo again which left our boy a bit flat footed for a couple of strides.
NASH was awake to AWESOME LAD and gave him a couple of reminders as they began to swing for home.
The light switch went on and Awesome Lad clicked up a couple of gears and by the time they balanced for the run home.
Eyeballing the leader at the 300m, NASH reminded AWESOME LAD of his job, and that NASH was the boss.
Incredibly AWESOME LAD found another gear again, and went one, then two lengths in front.
Despite cruising to the front at the 250m NASH kept him going with three more urgings and the gap established was unbeatable so Nash gave him an eased down run to the line to record an easy 2.33 length win over SHAKA ROCK with FIVE CROWNS 3.02 Lengths third of the 4 runners in a race time of 1:28.64 with a last 600m: 0:35.18.
Sky Channel commentator Richard Haynes said: “AWESOME LAD, today is his day, he gets that win on the board, JASON DEAMER and NASH RAWILLER. Shaka Rock runs second, Five Crowns third.”
Fellow commentator Brad Gray added: “AWESOME LAD you are going to take a large deduction there with that late scratching but AWESOME LAD breaks a run of outs. It wasn’t all plain sailing there, you thought half-way through he had to get a crack with the whip from Nash Rawiller just to get his mind on the job, but I the end all is well that ends well, he gets the job done, and pretty comprehensibly at the finish. But AWESOME LAD, his first win for 97 weeks, good to see him back in the winners circle and I imagine JASON DEAMER is a relieved man to see AWESOME LAD back in the winners stall, but he’s always been a horse with good talent, a super consistent horse and he’s been rewarded for that consistency today.”
Richard Haynes then said: “Jason is here today, he gets to walk him into that Number 1 stall, how good!”
Jason Deamer responded: “Yeah, but I wish they had a Number 1 stall here for him (missing through renovations), so he could have a real good look at it! And, get used to it!
“It’s good to see him finally get that win on the board, he’s been a great horse since Dynamic Syndications bought him and handed him over to me, so we have had a lot of fun. This is his third win for me but everytime he goes round he picks up a cheque for the owners, which is something they can’t complain about, especially last start when second in the Four Pillars, that was a big cheque, so it’s just very good to get the win today, it will really do the horse the world of good.”
Richard Haynes then said: “Its JASON DEAMER’S day with the horse, he’s been so, so consistent.
Sky commentator Chantelle Buckley chimed in “He has, I know we say he hasn’t won for a couple of years but he’s been so consistent and he always runs a big race, and he came off the bridle a fair way from home I will ask Nash.”
Nash Rawiller said: “Yeah, Rachel (Sonic Tycoon) quickened well, but the track is quite firm as we know, and he’s a big horse, probably felt it a touch, but he’s run right up to his form, and I think coming here today will give him a bit of confidence too. I had to be a bit aggressive before the corner, he’s ended up going quiet well and it was a soft win, and he’s enjoyed himself today.”
Richard Haynes finished by saying: “Well done to Dynamic Syndications, Dean, Adam the whole family. Well Done – A big group of owners there, they’ll be delighted with AWESOME LAD and Dynamic Syndications with the Win here.”
This was a win for consistency, a confidence builder for both AWESOME LAD and for his Owners.
AWESOME LAD had broken the run of outs. It was his 18th race start since his previous victory which was on Boxing Day in 2020 at Newcastle. So, 17 times he had been to the races without getting his photo taken but NASH ensured that the drought was broken.
This was our 7th race start for this preparation. He has finished in the top 3 placings 6 times now for a 1 Win and 4 Seconds and 1 Third.
Such is the depth of prizemoney available especially in NSW, in just his past 2 starts he has banked $115,000.
For the seven (7) runs this preparation he has banked $128,800.
Dynamic Syndications purchased AWESOME LAD for $75,000 from the Gooree Stud Dispersal at the Magic Millions after he had raced 3 times for a Win and 1 Third & $26,465
After we purchased him for JASON DEAMER to train, AWESOME LAD under Jason has had:
20 Starts: 3 Wins, 7 Seconds, 4 Thirds and earned $223,630.
AWESOME LAD is a horse that likes a dry surface, and we try hard to place him on a firm deck.
We know he loses all confidence with give in the ground, so we have tried hard to keep him away from those tracks.
His record reads: Good: 20:4-7-3 / Soft: 3:0-0-1 / Heavy: 0:0-0-0
He likes Hawkesbury where he is 2:2-0-0 and he has had four goes at the 1500m trip: 1-1-0
He has won over 1200m, 1300m 1350m 1500m and we have no concerns that he will be ready for the 1600m next time out.
Jason has won with him at Hawkesbury twice and at Newcastle, whilst he had won at Gosford before we purchased him.
Further, AWESOME LAD has been placed at Rosehill (2/4), Warwick Farm (2/2), Eagle Farm (2/3).
Jason Deamer has done a fantastic job with AWESOME LAD keeping him interested in racing and super consistent and for a horse that had seven (7) starts for the preparation, he was looking a treat at the sport on Wednesday.
