TIJUANA (3c American Pharoah x Mexican Rose, by Volksraad) won his second stakes race with victory in the
Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes.

Racing over a mile at Moonee Valley,
Tijuana took the lead with a furlong left and stayed in front from there.
Sent to the barriers as the $2.30 race favourite,
Tijuana hit the front turning for home under Mark Zahra and was strong to the line winning by a half-length with the son of
American Pharoah holding off Foujita San (Maurice) and an eye-catching Virtuous Circle (Almanzor), to take his record to five starts for three wins and two other top three finishes – both in stakes company, and has taken his earnings to over
$330,000.
Trained by the Lindsay Park Team of Ben and JD Hayes, connections are now eyeing the
Group 1 Caulfield Guineas on August 8 for Tijuana with the colt also holding an entry to the
October 22 Group 1 Cox Plate.
“Hopefully we have a nice chance in the Caulfield Guineas,” Ben Hayes told Breednet.
“He’s definitely a horse on the up and is so exciting and a big congratulations to the owners as it’s the first horse we’ve purchased together at Magic Millions and we’re having a bit of fun with him.”
A $100,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Eureka Stud draft, Tijuana is the final foal for dual champion Mexican Rose, who also produced stakes-placed Mexican Tycoon among her four winners from six to race. Mexican Rose is also a half-sister to Mastercraftsman’s Group 3-placed Latin Rose. The family also includes Group 1 Arlington Million winner Mill Native.
American Pharoah, has 30 stakes winners and 58 stakes performers from his three crops.
That group includes six (6) Group 1 winners in the U.S.A, Japan, and France.

His son
Tijuana who was
already a 2yo Listed Winner at his second race start, before being put away for the Spring, showed he had his hoof on the till after two encouraging runs back from the spell.
Tijuana had placed third in both runs this campaign in the McNeil Stakes and the Exford Plate behind smart types Jacquinot and Berkeley Square, both who he is likely to meet in the Caulfield Guineas.
Tijuana became the sire’s 17th Group stakes winner worldwide.
