A further two Dynamic Syndications 2yo’s were given racing names by RISA on Friday and the owners are delighted with their moniker’s. Both were graduates of the Inglis Classic Sale.
The first is the
2yo Colt by Tale Of The Cat ex Hot Ticket with trainer Darren Smith has been named:
HAIR OF THE DOG
The definition of what the name signified is a simple play on words. There is basically one description of what HAIR OF THE DOG is:
MEANING: A colloquial expression in the English language that dates back to the 16th century predominantly used to refer to alcohol which is consumed with the aim of lessening the effects of a hangover.
In this case of naming our colt, it’s a simple play on words, to offer an antonym to the name of the sire:
TALE OF THE CAT = HAIR OF THE DOG
It’s a fun, whimsical name that could well introduce a cult like following for the colt when he starts winning races. It has a similar status to a colt we raced several years ago in HE’S NO PIE EATER which became a dual Gr1 winner. We hope HAIR OF THE DOG may measure up to similar ability.
The second is the
2yo Filly by Choisir ex Carlton Show with trainer Chris Waller has been named:
ACTION BUTTON
There are many descriptions of what an Action Button is and it has many uses. However in the case of our filly, it has a specific meaning. It’s a poker (card game) terminology.
When you review the female family of the filly, there are several horses named with reference to a game of cards, as a result of the 2nd Dam is ACES ROYALE – by King’s High. There are names like Winning Hand, Carlton Ace, Carlton Show, etc.
In keeping with that cards game theme, the filly was named ACTION BUTTON.
MEANING: the action button is awarded to the winner of a pot above a certain minimum size. In other words – The Action Button refers too / is given too - A Big WINNER ! In poker that signifies, into the next pot, that winning player who has won the action button is then required to kick off the next hand’s pot at an amount representing the opening full bet.
For example, in a poker game with say $2 is the minimum and $1 is the standard “bring-in bet” into the pot, the player who has the “Action Button” as a result of being a big winner of an oversized previous hand, sets the new pot and posts the first bet. In this example, that would be an opening of $2 before any cards were seen.
After the cards are dealt, then the player with the low card must still pay the $1 bring-in, and then, that continues in player rotation until the betting reaches the player who posted the “action button” bet of $2. That player is required to leave it in as a raise of the bring-in and also has the option to raise the bet further therefore dominating the new hand.
Simplistically – in poker, if you have the “ACTION BUTTON” you have been a big winner !
