Deploy earned a well-deserved first stakes win in Saturday's
Gr2 Moreton Cup (1200m) at Doomben.
The 4yo gelding by
Super Sire FASTNET ROCK also earned a start into next Saturday’s $1.5 million Gr1 Stradbroke Hcp however connections will decide this week if he lines up.
Deploy
Ridden by Tim Clark for
trainer Gerald Ryan, the gutsy
Deploy was too tough for Snowden’s Dothraki to claim victory by a long neck with Perfect Dare (another Fastnet Rock) a length and a half away in third spot.
"At this stage he's a Group 2 winner and there's a lot of races that are suitable for him apart from the Stradbroke," Sterling Alexiou, representing trainer Gerald Ryan said.
"He's always shown super ability at home and he's come on in leaps and bounds his past two preparations.
"For him to come to a Group 2 today and win is fantastic."
Sterling also stated the Group 3 Healy Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on June 24 shaped as the next winter carnival goal for Deploy.
A $450,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Torryburn Stud draft, Deploy runs for a syndicate that includes his breeder as well as Segenhoe Thoroughbreds and Stallion Racing.
His overall record is
13 career starts: 6 wins, 5 seconds and 1 third with earnings of $389,435.
He is one of four winners from as many to race out of Torryburn Stud's much loved Red Ransom (USA) mare Crimson Reign, a Gr3 winner.
Deploy became the 118th stakes winner for Coolmore Stud's champion stallion Fastnet Rock whose daughter Alluringly ran third Gr1 Epsom Oaks on Friday night in Europe.
Fastnet Rock was back in the winner’s circle again, this time with the quinella in the Group 3 Lion Rock Trophy at Sha Tin on Sunday with his two sons Booming Delight and Eastern Express fighting out the finish.
Booming Delight That took his tally to
119 Stakes Winners.
The John Moore trained Booming Delight was ridden by Sam Clipperton, who settled the four year-old gelding near the tail of the field before unleashing a powerful finish.
Booming Delight surged to the line to win the 1600 metre contest by the best part of a length over Eastern Express.
"I'm thrilled," Clipperton said,
"and to do it for John Moore and on this horse, Booming Delight, too, he has been my favourite horse since he started racing here. I do all of his trackwork, I've ridden him in most of his starts, I got down to 116 pounds to ride today. It's a relief, but it's also a thrill. That's been the whole season, just amazing."
It was the first stakes win for Booming Delight, who has won six of 13 starts.
Booming Delight was not initially among entries for the Lion Rock Trophy, with his next run originally scheduled for 25 June's G3 Premier Plate (1800m).
"I'm glad we ran him now, obviously," Moore said
. "I just didn't want to upset the preparation we had already planned, but the owner was happy to change and it has paid off for him. He's always looked one of our better four-year-olds and it is great to see him join the list of Group winners."
Now, Moore says the Premier Plate is just one option for the Fastnet Rock gelding before the end of the season.
"We still have the 1800m up our sleeve but we can also look at the Sha Tin Mile Trophy on the last day of the season," Moore said.
"I think he will definitely make a December horse, probably a Hong Kong Mile type, I don't think he needs to stretch out to 2000m again. I just need to keep him sound because he's a big Fastnet Rock, he can find the tracks a bit firm so we'll just keep him ticking over."
Booming Delight is a full brother to Group 1 Doncaster Racing Post Trophy winner Rivet and three-quarter brother to Group 3 winner Alexander Pope.
He is one of six winners from Galileo mare Starship, a half-sister to Group 2 winning sprinter Superstar Leo and to the dam of Australian Group 1 winner December Draw.
