Black-Type awaits YULONG CODE as he aims at Spring Carnival riches.
YULONG CODE
Yulong Code (3 c Zoustar - Acouplamas by Al Maher) got off the mark winning the Pink Finss Charity Maiden Plate (1300m) at Hawkesbury on Thursday.
He’s been an eye-catcher but unlucky at both his previous but
$1.075m colt took his chance to make a dent in his purchase price.
The three-year-old was scratched from Wednesday’s Canterbury meeting in favour of the provincial option and it was a winning move.
On debut in May, he ran an 11.65 final 200m, according to Punter’s Intelligence data, and he did that basically from a standing start after being caught up behind a wall of horses.
Then at Warwick Farm on the June long weekend, he again warmed up late, running easily the fastest last 600m (35.85) and last 200m (12.16) in heavy ground to be beaten just over a length.
Significantly, he kicked off this preparation over 1300m, having started over shorter trips in that first preparation and he’s been sharp enough to win one of his two barrier trials leading into this event.
It was expected that the short price favourite would win.
The obvious danger was the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Explosive Truth who was second-up here after a first-up run where he led and was run down late as favourite, over 1200m at Kembla Grange two weeks ago.
Yulong's bloodstock manager Luke Wilkinson said he was nervous ahead of Thursday's race.
"We were very impressed with that." said Wilkinson.
"I was very nervous before the race because I thought he had done everything right going into it and I just thought he needed a bit of luck, so it was good to see him put it all together.
"He was meant to run over 1250 metres on Wednesday, but there were a few chances in the race and we just thought we would err on the side of caution and take him to Hawkesbury and then progress on from there."
Wilkinson said the colt's main spring target was the
Carbine Club Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) at Flemington on Derby day.
"I think getting the win today was a good confidence booster for him and then we can step up to other things" said Wilkinson.
"We have a bit of a plan getting to the Carbine Club on Derby Day, so we'll see how we go.
"Obviously being a half to Quick Thinker we feel he can get further, and he is that style of horse as well, he is a little bit long and stretchy and we think he will really develop into a lovely horse.
"The Carbine Club will be his main Spring target and that can also lead into the Sandown Guineas if he still has petrol in the tank after the Carbine Club."
Purchased owners Yulong and Rifa Mustang for $1,075,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the colt is out of stakes-placed Al Maher (Danehill) mare Acouplamas, making him a half-brother to last season's Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner
Quick Thinker (So You Think) and stakes-placed duo
Seasons (Sebring) and
The August (I Am Invincible).
The colt's third dam is
Tilly Foster (Vice Regal), who in turn produced Kensington Gardens (Grosvenor) - the dam of VRC Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) winner and late sire Blackfriars (Danehill) and Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Larrocha (Danehill). Larrocha herself is the dam of Rocha (Encosta De Lago), who landed the 2008 Wakeful Stakes (Gr 2, 2000m).
Kensington Gardens also produced Group 2 winner Manton (Danehill) and Listed-winning pair Waterford Road (Danehill) and Lions Gate (Danehill).
In 2018 Acouplamas slipped to So You Think (High Chaparral), before missing to Sebring (More Than Ready) the following season and she was covered by Widden Stud-based sire Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) in November last year.
ACOUPLAMAS
Acouplamas was purchased by Dynamic Syndications as a yearling and raced with success, claiming a couple of wins and was then runner-up in a stakes race in Brisbane.
Already with a
Gr1 Winner and
two Stakes Placed horses as her progeny, it certainly appears that
Yulong Code will become her fourth Black-Type progeny.
This upcoming weekend, the female family may have further growth in black-type as
QUICK THINKER is set to resume in Melbourne on Friday night, whilst
Seasons and Rocha Clock face the starter at Rosehill on Saturday.
This massive growth in recent Black Type additions to the female family has already seen
our 2yo filly by SHALAA (IRE) x TALENTED MISS literally double in value whilst she has been learning her racecraft in early training.
OUR 2YO Filly - SHALAA x TALENTED MISS
Dynamic Syndications purchased our filly at this year’s Magic Millions, and we now sold 17 shares, so we only have 3 shares remaining at time of writing this story.
TALENTED MISS is the Full Sister to ACOUPLAMAS.
With our filly, she will be keenly sought as a breeding prospect when she is retired because sending her to
So You Think creates a three-quarter relation to Derby Winner QUICK THINKER or sending her to
Zoustar will create a three-quarter relation to Yulong Code.
That’s after we have the fun racing her and if the family keeps producing the way it is, her value will keep escalating.
Don’t miss out here. Contact
ADAM WATT at Dynamic on 02 9540 1511 or 0409 464 378 and claim one of these final shares in a gilt-edged sensational filly.
