The highly successful young second crop sire The Autumn Sun saw his daughter Vibrant Sun become his 4th individual stakes winner when she chased down the leader to claim victory in Saturday’s $200,000 Alexandra S. 1600m Gr3 at Moonee Valley.

Exactly five years after his final Group 1 victory in the Rosehill Guineas, the champion son of Redoute’s Choice further underlined his growing worth as a sire with this
Whilst The Autumn Belle, finished runner-up in the Clare Lindop S. LR at Morphettville, his 8th stakes performer.
Vibrant Sun’s Group success at her 6th race start, confirmed the promise she had shown when an 8-length maiden winner at Geelong in November, and her co-trainer Mick Price’s confidence that she was ready for Group company and beyond.
“She’s clean-winded, she’s sound, I brought her here Tuesday morning and worked her by herself and she peeled off a 1200-metre gallop just full of gusto – got a great brain on her….Black type fantastic for her, and the Australasian Oaks would be the pinnacle of her preparation this time in.”
Jockey Thomas Stockdale said, “I’ve probably never been so confident coming into a Group 3 on a filly that’s on her way up. I worked her during the week, and she’s just gone from strength to strength and she’s still not quite there yet…the further we went, the stronger she was getting.”
Sold at Magic Millions Gold Coast, Vibrant Sun is the second foal of Group 3 and multiple city winner Vibrant Rouge (by Written Tycoon). She was purchased for $260,000 by the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr stable.
The Autumn Sun sits equally with Harry Angel at the head of the current Australian Second Season Sires’ table by individual stakes winners, thanks to deeds by Autumn Angel, Autumn Ballet & Vibrant Sun among a total of 34 winners.
Vibrant Sun needed to dig deep after Grinzinger Belle had the field off the bit before the home turn.
The daughter of The Autumn Sun knuckled down to her task to claim Grinzinger Belle at the 50m to win by a half-length. Vivy Air was four lengths back in third.
Vibrant Sun advances her record to two wins and a second from six starts with earnings of $150,225.
“What is good about it is that she didn’t have black type and now she is a Group 3 winner.
“It is very good for Thomas Stockdale, too. Tom comes in and rides work. He’s a very promising kid who has had a lot of injuries. I’m very pleased for him.
“It was great to see him one-out and one-back. We joked that it would be nice to be one-out and one-back but when he actually got there, I thought that was good and she was just good enough to pick up the win.
“She’ll go to Adelaide now, I imagine. We put a circle around the South Australian Oaks. She’s got a turn-of-foot, she’s clean winded, she’s sound."
Vibrant Sun is the fourth stakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud’s The Autumn Sun.
Whilst at Morphettville in the Clare Lindop Stakes LR 1600m, The Autumn Belle (3f The Autumn Sun x Winning Belle (NZ) (Zabeel (NZ)) Trained by Henry Dwyer and ridden by Madison Lloyd finished runner-up.
