The Dynamic Syndications / Ciaron Maher Racing Team were back in the Winner’s Circle less than a week after Winning the Gr2 Missile Stakes with I AM ME.
This time, it was on Friday afternoon at Geelong, when our 4yo brown gelding BAROQUE ROAD (by CARAVAGGIO (USA) from MALIBU ROAD (USA)) led from the time the gates crashed back until the camera flashed with a dominant display.
Our Magic Millions purchased yearling was facing the starter for the ninth occasion and won with ease, taking his overall record to 9 Starts: 2-1-1 & $75,925 as he won Race 7, the TMC Industries Class 1 Handicap, over 1330m on a Good 3, he ran 1:20.99 picking up $14,850 for his owners.
Ridden by jet pilot Jamie Mott and lumping the steadier of 60.0kg top weight, the Dynamic Duo loaded into the barriers as the $4.20 race favourite and were not placed under any pressure from his opposition as the race unfolded.
BAROQUE ROAD defeated The Brill Building (59.0kgs) by 1.25 lengths with Gottanuff in third place a further 0.4 length away.
BAROQUE ROAD and Jamie Mott had to defy the day’s obvious track bias towards swoopers out wide, because our 4yo is an on-pace horse.
Jockeys and media were commenting that despite it being a Good 3 surface, the inside part of the track was well worn, and the better ground was out wide. That would not suit BAROQUE ROAD who has a racing pattern to be on pace.
However, nobody told our horse he couldn’t win!
BAROQUE ROAD has a reputation with his connections that he can be a “bit of a thinker” as he has had races at his mercy previously but found ways to get beaten.
After all, he won on debut on the Randwick Kensington track, and this was his ninth start today but just his second race win, with a once Second and once third. However, he had put the writing on the wall last start at Sale where he found just one better and he has franked that form with a good win here.
This was his fifth start this preparation having run Third at Warwick Farm first-up, followed by a Fourth placing at Warwick Farm Second up. Then Third-up was a disaster at Rosehill where he finished down the track pulling up distressed with heart arrhythmia.
We sent him down to Melbourne for the Team to train him from Cranbourne, and he put in a super run at his next start, at Sale last time out when just not quite being able to run down the leader Miss Take by 0.5 length. Whispers are that horse maybe well above average.
Here in this event at Geelong, there were several horses heavily backed in the race, and it looked as it was going to be a very competitive event. However, none of the other riders wanted to be in a forward position, they all wanted to have a runner to follow, and Jamie Mott was able to dictate terms with very soft early sectionals, turning the race into a sit and sprint affair. None could match our horse’s turn of foot and as a result, his ownership group get to place another photo on the wall with the promise of more to come.
It’s so refreshing to be with a stable that has such wonderful infrastructures and workflows in place. It’s a seamless operation that suits horses and therefore suits our owners. Plus, they are all so enthusiastic, and work so well as a team.
It was a big day for the stable as BAROQUE ROAD was their fourth (4th) winner on the programme and it was a winning double for Jamie Mott.
