Wednesday 30 August proved a terrific day for Team Dynamic and the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace Racing Team as we were back in the Winner’s Circle at Sandown as our galloper BAROQUE ROAD (4yo Brown Gelding by CARAVAGGIO (USA) from MALIBU ROAD (USA)), recorded back-to-back wins.
BAROQUE ROAD (61.5kg) ($5.0) stopped the
clock in 1:18.88 in Race 5 the Ladbrokes Live Betting Handicap 1300m.
BAROQUE ROAD won by 0.5 length over Struck Gold (59.5kg) ($2.50) with
third place going to Darceandermill (58.5)($61.0) 0.9 length away.
It also recorded Dynamic Syndications eight (8th) race win for the first month of the new 2023-24 Racing season.
A $100,000 Magic Millions purchase from Coolmore Stud as agent, BAROQUE ROAD took his career record 10 Starts: 3-1-1-1 and $103,425. This was his second metropolitan win with the promise of more to come.
Previously a “bit of a thinker” BAROQUE ROAD seems to have started to mature between the ears and is applying himself in his racecraft.
Last start he lead throughout to claim a 1330m Class 1 at Geelong.
In today’s event at Sandown, he was ridden by Jamie Mott and was given the steadier of 61.5kgs by the handicapper. With the speed map indicating there was more pace in this event, Jamie allowed BAROQUE ROAD to use his gate speed early then after the first 100m, Jamie allowed Baroque Road to drop his head and allowed three runners to his outside push forward. Jamie then popped off the fence to settle one out one back after the first furlong marker.
The $2.50 race favourite Struck Gold worked to the lead with Lovin Laughs at its girth and Darceandermill trailing Struck Gold the fence and this allowed Jamie to steer BAROQUE ROAD to move into the one/one position trailing the speed.
The field stayed in this position through the 600m marker before the runs started to come.
Jamie Mott sensed the time was right as the leaders started to bunch and the field started to swing into the home straight as he peeled 4 deep into the running line, with runners approaching on his outside as the pack balanced for the 400m run home.
Passing the 400m BAROQUE ROAD was full of running and cruised up to eyeball the leader Struck Gold as the rest of the field couldn’t answer the challenge.
At the 300m there wasn’t a split match between the pair and by the time the 200m post flashed by BAROQUE ROAD started to gain the lead from a very determined favourite.
At the 100m Struck Gold had fought back
and it was a two horse war to the camera flash. Both horses had every
muscle and sinew straining and with 50m remaining the Class of BAROQUE ROAD began
to tell and stride by stride he lengthened the margin to get his photo
taken a half-length in front of a gallant Struck Gold.
