BIG ANGEL the 4yo mare
Full-Sister to our
DYNAMIC 2yo Colt by ZOUSTAR ex LOCKET, resumed from a spelling paddock since May, over a testing 1500m at Mornington on Thursday and as a result of that process, she would have slept well overnight, after being trapped 3-deep without cover throughout the entire race, but despite the task it was set, proved too good when
recording a tough victory.
BIG ANGEL won Race 2, the Lesley Breaden Maiden Plate (1500m) carrying 58.0kgs on a Good 4 surface in a time of 1:34.23.
Jumping away mid-field,
BIG ANGEL was allowed to balance-up early as the field sorted its running order however she was unable to get across to find cover.
Trapped 3 deep facing the breeze after a furlong, there was no where to go, so rider Damian Lane was forced to stay wide, but instead of being in the second half of the field, he moved up to be 3-deep but tracking the leaders.
Approaching the 500m the field began to bunch as they turned into the straight. Flushed out early as the horse she was following began to yield, Damian pushed-up and swept to the lead as they balanced into the straight.
A lesser horse would have hit the wall, but
BIG ANGEL found another gear and dashed 2 lengths in front passing the 200m.
The hard task began to tell and despite running on fumes over the final 50m,
BIG ANGEL kept going despite some late ground being made by the chasers.
They were unable to reel her in, seeing
BIG ANGEL ($4.20 2nd fav) post a long-head (0.3 len) margin over runner-up Mrs Murphy, with third placed Tiz My Bay (55.5kgs) $3.20 favourite a head away (0.2 len).
This maiden win by
BIG ANGEL was well deserved and certainly overdue. She has been city placed, among 4 placings.
Her career now reads: 9 starts: 1-2-2 and $40,600.
BIG ANGEL becomes the first winner for her Dam
LOCKET.
BIG ANGEL also has a full-sister named
VISTA GIRL who has also been placed and is in full work at present.
Whilst
OUR COLT by ZOUSTAR ex LOCKET who is being trained by
terrific horseman JASON DEAMER at Newcastle, is their
