Back-To-Back Wins by CHEVAL SAVANT for Dynamic CIARON MAHER Team

Dynamic Syndications 4yo gelding CHEVAL SAVANT went to the barriers as a $2.30 favourite at Ballarat on Tuesday, in a Bm64 over 2100m, and won accordingly as our CIARON MAHER trained son of SAVABEEL led throughout to Win Race 5, the Celebrations Benalla Handicap when ridden by Eathan Brown and carrying top weight of 60.5kgs.

A last start winner at Canberra over 2000m in a Class 1 Set Weights, and stripping fitter again into this event, it was Adam Watt from Team Dynamic that spied this event which looked ideal as the race carried a VOBIS GOLD Open Horse Owners Bonus of $20,000 ($14,000 to the Owners of the Winner) in addition to the $14,850 first prize cheque totalling $28,850.

A handy pick-up considering the stronger Mid-Week race at Sandown in higher grade the following day is only worth $1,400 more.

Opportunities to run in these events for this amount to the winner do not come along that often, especially at this lower grade, and with the Ciaron Maher Racing Team having the great benefit of stables in both Sydney and Melbourne, its an easy assignment to send our horses up and down the highway to pick-off the low hanging fruit and bank valuable prizemoney.

This win by CHEVAL SAVANT took our 4yo’s race record to 12 Starts: 3 Wins, 1 Second, 2 Thirds and $105,300 which is more than acceptable for the $80,000 yearling purchase from the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale. His wins have been at Stawell over 1857m, Canberra over 2000m and Benalla over 2100m.

Since applying the Blinkers onto the son of Savabeel out of a Fastnet Rock mare (both breeds that show an affinity to race well in blinkers) on the 8th January, CHEVAL SAVANT has posted back-to-back wins.

Here at Benalla, the plan was simply to roll forward and take up a handy position.

We expected another runner to lead, and we would trail that horse as a bit of a bunny to follow, but the race didn’t quite pan out that way, as that anticipated leader wanted to sit off the lead, so Ethan summed up things quickly passing the winning post for the first time and angled across to find the paint in front. From that stage it was all over.

Getting away with steady fractions off the front, despite carrying the big top weight of 60.5kgs and spotting the rest of his peers a minimum of 2.0kgs, Ethan had CHEVAL SAVANT in a lovely rhythm. Pressure came into the race from the 600m, but CHEVAL SAVANT was off and gone around the home turn and put a two-length gap over the chasers.

Asked to extend from the 200m CHEVAL SAVANT rallied gamely and was so in control that the final 50m the Dynamic Duo were able to coast to the post to stave off the runner-up.
