Back to Back MAYOR'S CUP Wins for Dynamic JACK DUGGAN and Deamer

Having won the 2023 edition of the Mayor’s Cup at Gosford on 31 December last year, our Dynamic stayer was able to “repeat the feat” by winning the 2024 edition of the Mayor’s Cup. The feature Gosford race was transferred to Port Macquarie this year as the Gosford track remains under renovation.

Trained by Jason Deamer at Newcastle for his team of Dynamic owners, JACK DUGGAN took his overall career record to: 36 starts = 7:2:3 and Prizemoney: $189,548.

JACK DUGGAN has recorded wins over 1513m, 1600m, 1890m,1900m (2), 2000m, 2100m.

JACK DUGGAN has been extremely unlucky his past two starts when held up with no galloping room at Canterbury and Newcastle. This was an event where he looked ideally placed at a trip that suits, was well weighted and only needed average racing luck to fight out the finish.

Ridden by Ash Morgan, our horse was sent to the races in fantastic order by Jason Deamer and a talented ride by Ash gave our horse the opportunity to show his ability and JACK DUGGAN achieved what we had believed he could, winning the race in stylish fashion with the ability to go to the finishing line under his own steam for the final 50m.

Despite being an alarming drifter in the final 5 minutes of betting, nobody told JACK DUGGAN he couldn’t go back-to-back and our galloper went out and did the job done.

There is no doubt that the win came courtesy of both a willing horse , fit, well and ready, along with a peach of a ride by Ash Morgan.

As the gates crashed back, JACK DUGGAN was away well but was allowed to get into a rhythm early and dropped out of the battle for the lead settling in seventh spot in the eight-horse field as the field swung past the finishing post for the first time on their lap of the Port Macquarie circuit.

It was here, when the field began to swing out of the home straight that Ash was at his best.

The field began to turn, and it got a bit messy as a few runners crabbed their way around the tight bend.

Watching that unfold, Ash could see the favourite Like Lukey was out deep, whilst second favourite Punjabi Landing had lobbed into third spot one pair back the fence.

It was here Ash took the initiative and pushed JACK DUGGAN along to improve his position and that resulted in the favourite being trapped 3-deep and put himself on the outside of Punjabi Landing which was the prime position.

We then watched the race unfold, and Ash made his winning move as the field swung past the 700m marker.

Ash summed things up and noted the leaders were getting away with slow sectionals that would turn the race into a sit and sprint.

Ash “took off” and within 100m had dashed around the field and by the 600m post had dashed in front and had the field off the bit early.

Ash knew that his horse would sprint fast for 200m then keep rolling, so even though he went “early” he would keep going and they would not be able to run him down.

Turning for home with 300m to run JACK DUGGAN was 2 lengths in front of the field and was going strongly, but at the 150m was starting to get tired, but so were those chasing him.

Ash was still strong at the 100m and was able to let the horse roll to the line with 50m still to go gave JACK DUGGAN an armchair ride to the post.
