The two-day Tattersalls UK CRAVEN Breeze-Up Sale concluded overnight with a total
121 Lots selling for an Average 86,000 Guineas ($161,500 AUD) and a Median of 68,000 Guineas ($127,500 AUD).
The star amongst the First Crop Sires was
CARAVAGGIO (Scat Daddy) who has made a cracking start to his sire career, and
currently leads the First Crop Sires by Earnings in England/Ireland.
As a result of this boom, and the
strong feedback from stables about what they have in their yards, there was
significant demand for his progeny.
The
Day 2 session was topped by
Lot 143 a Colt by CARAVAGGIO ex BRIGHT SAPPHIRE at 240,000 Guineas (252,000 GBP / $450,000 AUD) and this proved the second highest price paid for a colt at the sale.

Interestingly, he will do his future racing in
Hong Kong.
The
Top Colt was Lot 8 by champion sire KINGMAN x Flying Fairies which was knocked down for
335,000 Guineas ($628,000 AUD) whilst the
Top Filly was a daughter of
PRACTICAL JOKE (USA) x Purr And Prowl who topped Day 1 session for
360,000 Guineas ($675,000 AUD).
Over the
2 Days, there were
five (5) CARAVAGGIO 2yo’s sell for an Average of 112,500 Guineas ($211,000 AUD) and a Median of 120,000 Guineas ($225,000 AUD).
Alastair Donald secured the attractive colt by
CARAVAGGIO for 240,000 guineas after seeing off the efforts of Irish trainer Michael O’Callaghan.
"He is for a new Hong Kong client, he will go out to Hong Kong at the end of the season," revealed Donald.
"He will be pre-trained in England, he is a lovely big horse and he has a nice pedigree. He breezed well for a big horse and looks the type to do well in Hong Kong."
Donald added:
"They don't race until they are three-year-olds (in Hong Kong), so don't want a 'here and now' horse. The sire looks like he has got a very nice two-year-old already and this is the first I have bought by the sire, I did like the yearlings - they are particularly good walkers, and this horse's movement is very good."
The colt was sold by Yeomanstown Stud, who had pin-hooked the colt at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale for
155,000 guineas ($290,000 AUD).
Yeomanstown Stud’s David O’Callaghan commented;
"He is a beautiful colt, he breezed really well and has a great attitude. We’re very pleased, he was always a lovely horse and he hasn't missed a day."
CARAVAGGIO in his racing days was known as the
"BALLYDOYLE BULLET" because of his
blistering speed and the fact he was the fastest son of one of the
world’s best sires was a major indicator he has the opportunity of becoming a sire sensation in his own right.
The son of champion speed sire
SCAT DADDY, was a pure exhilarating Speed Machine
CARAVAGGIO
However,
reputation counts for nothing once progeny appear on the track, and the fact is
CARAVAGGIO has hit the ground running.
The Team at DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS are
particularly bullish about what his progeny should do here in Australia and our beliefs intensified when
our CARAVAGGIO (USA) x MALIBU ROAD (USA) by Malibu Moon (USA) went under saddle and broke-in even better than we had hoped.
Australian Equestrian Olympian Shane Rose, who
breaks-in and educates all Dynamic Syndications yearling purchases, rated our
CARAVAGGIO Colt extremely highly.
With our Colt heading into the care of
GAI WATERHOUSE and ADRIAN BOTT on what he has shown us, we are extremely hopeful we have a
genuine pre-Christmas 2yo and a real ticket into Magic Millions calculations.
It’s not surprising to us he has shown what he has to Shane because apart from being a
magnificent looking individual, he is
genetically bred to be good with an
A 238% pedigree rating score and a quality rating of
79%, which rated this colt among the
best bred by the sire in Australasia.
Also, we mentioned in a recent news article that he has a
sensational commercial pedigree backing him as well.
Whilst his
own Dam was
unraced, she is a
Full-Sister to a multiple Stakes Winner, a
Half-Sister to a multiple Stakes Winner and a
Half-Sister to the Dams of a Stakes Winner and two multiple Stakes Placegetters. His
2nd Dam is a Gr2 Winner / Gr1 placed, whilst his
3rd Dam is a Group 1 Winner.
Also, his twice stakes performed
half-brother INDEPENDENT ROAD made it back-to back city wins when he won again at Caulfield last Saturday.
Our Colt’s Dam
can’t do anymore as our Colt is a
Half-Brother to 5 foals to race – All Winners.
Therefore,
(a) we know genetically that the cross works,
(b) commercially it’s an extremely strong black-type pedigree,
(c) the Dam has a 100% strike rate and now
(d) the most important element – the First Crop Sire is on Fire in the Northern Hemisphere and
(e) the Tatt’s Breeze-Up Sale results show he is in-demand,
(f) add-in he will be in the best stable for 2yo’s in Australia and
(g) we also know an extremely important aspect that he has broken-in like a precocious flying machine.
Factually, we are in a many times stronger position now than we were when we purchased him at the Magic Millions, because back then, we just loved him as a type and knew he had a family behind him.
Now the guess work is gone.
We took a few pics out at Bimbadeen to share with our followers.
