Group One winner and top-flight sire ALMANZOR (FR) has enjoyed another lucrative season and his 2024 Service Fee has been set at $30,000 + GST.

ALMANZOR (FR) - Outstanding racehorse & sire
He has so far during the 2023/24 season been represented by: Group 1 Winner Circle Of Fire and additional Stakes Winners Athabascan, Moonlight Magic, Nucleozor, Positivity, Sudbina and Zabmanzor.
In three crops of racing age, he has sired 16 Stakes Winners; including 10 in the Southern Hemisphere:
Australia (3): CIRCLE OF FIRE, MANZOICE, ATHABASCAN
New Zealand (7): MOONLIGHT MAGIC, NUCLEOZOR, SUDBINA, ZABMANZOR, POSITIVITY, (LORD) DYNASTIC, CHEVAL D’OR
Cambridge Stud Chief Executive Officer Henry Plumptre said, “Almanzor is enjoying an excellent season on the track with seven (7) stakes winners. He has an enviable record in Group One races and has added another five (5) top-level performers headlined by the Sydney Cup quinella of Circle Of Fire and Athabascan.
“He represents fantastic value, and we expect him to be very well supported again this year.”
His current 2022 foal crop which are his yearlings produced 105 live foals; whilst his next crop which are current weanlings has yielded 96 live foals. Last season he covered 76 mares whose foals will be due in the Spring.
6 Yearlings by Almanzor were Sold in Australia between the Magic Millions and Inglis Premier.
Cambridge Stud sent 4 of these yearlings across – 2 Sold at the Magic Millions and 2 in Melbourne.
In total they Grossed $930,000 on an Average of $155,000 and a Median of $137,500.
A recent article compared ALMANZOR to the legendary ZABEEL and highlighted how ALMANZOR is off to a faster and more productive start in his stud career than ZABEEL was at the equivalent stage.
Prior to exporting their yearlings to Australia for the 2024 sales, Cambridge Stud CEO Henry Plumptre was interviewed in NZ and said, “We have got a beautiful colt by Almanzor (lot 429) out of a Galileo mare called Anchovy. She had a very nice Fastnet Rock at Magic Millions last year (West Indies) that made $575,000 to the bid of Ciaron Maher. Anchovy is a mare that can throw a decent type and he is a beautiful colt.”
Team Dynamic and Ciaron Maher both thought the same as Henry when we inspected him at the sales.
We made him a target to give us a genuine chance at Derbies and Cups and were thrilled to own him when the gavel fell at $125,000 + GST.
Since then, ALMANZOR progeny have really come to the fore, placing the young sire in Second place on the NZ 3YO Sires Premiership and Third on the Third Crop Sires Premiership in Australia and whilst last Saturday Anchovy’s first foal named Sailing Away (Merchant Navy) broke his Maiden at Riccarton and the Ciaron Maher team are very upbeat by the progression of the second foal named West Indies (by Fastnet Rock).
