D’AMORE D’MERRIER - the daughter of
Gr1 winning mare AQUA D’MORE broke her maiden for
Team Dynamic, our owners and Trainer Chris Munce when scoring over 1800m in Race 1 on the Gold Coast on Saturday, the Diesel Leaders Maiden Plate, in a Time: 1:51.26 and Last 600m: 0:35.38.
D'AMORE D'MERRIER records Dynamic Win 500
The significance of the win was huge for TEAM DYNAMIC because D’MORE D’MERRIER in capturing this event, recorded Dynamic Syndications 500th Race Win since our first runner named Up’n’Doing was a winner at Rosehill on 22 October 2005.
D'Amore D'Merrier returning after her win
D’Amore D’Merrier has now raced on 8 occasions for 1win and 1 second in the city.
To say D’Amore D’Merrier may have inherited some of mum’s ability is a bit of a stretch but one things is for sure, she has inherited some of her mum’s quirky idiosyncrasies.
Aqua D’Amore had so much ability but was known to have more tricks than a magician and became infamous late in her career for sitting down in the barriers.
However, she was a brilliant racemare on her day. She recorded a career of:
35-9-4-7 Prizemoney: $1,936,850. She was a Gr1 winner of the MRC Futurity Stakes 1600m, Gr2 AJC Villiers Stakes 1600m and Gr3 Winner of the AJC Summer Cup 2400m and the MRC Eclipse Stakes 2100m
Our mare has certainly shown ability along the way, already running some excellent races but there are other starts that leave the viewer shaking your head.
Hopefully this win will see the mare turn the corner and with the confidence of the win, she can go on with it now and repeat this result several times.
To be fair, most of her races have been on unsuitable rain affected ground and over short trips. She does prefer being on top of the ground and always indicated signs that an increase in trip was what she wanted but a combination of lack of opportunities in the racing calendar, along with bad barriers, bad weather and bad luck, have stifled opportunity.
On Saturday despite the forecast for rain, the
planets aligned.
We had drawn Barrier 1 in Race 1 and the rain held off until after Race 1 allowing her to run on a Good 4 surface.
We were adamant for this assignment that we wanted leading local jockey
Jackson Morris to take the reins and booked him well in advance for the race.
Jackson rode her a treat for our team of owners. We had asked him not to bustle her from the gate but rather let her find her feet and relax into a rhythm. We were unconcerned where she would settle but we didn’t want her to do too much work early. However, the key was to be off the fence in the straight because we felt that she resented horses on her outside.
Jackson Morris supplied the perfect ride.
As the gates crashed back D’Amore D’Merrier wanted to take off and lead but Jackson grabbed hold and restrained her as several of the field crossed to take up the running and our mare settled just worse than mid field on the fence. The tempo was muddling with a few up front wanting to slow the race down but then they took off stretching the field out over a dozen lengths half way down the back straight.
Jackson riding perfectly, kept our mare in a rhythm without asking her to extend. At the 600m he began sneaking up a little closer to be 3 lengths off the leaders as they swung for home.
The pair hugged the rail into the straight before angling off the fence at the 350m to be to the outside of the leader spotting that horse 2 lengths.
Then Jackson and D’Amore D’Merrier dug in for the fight and the mare started to chase. Our mare responded and drew up to eyeball the leader before pulling away over the last 150m to go on and defeat the boys Blue Monte by 1.5 lengths by a neck back to the odds-on favourite Making Shadows back in third.
Jackson Morris & D'Amore D'Merrier Return To Scale
It was a top job by Jackson Morris and the mare, as much as it was a brilliant job by Chris Munce to call upon all his horsemanship skills, to work out our problematic mare and train her to be fit, well and ready.
As a comparison,
D’Amore D’Merrier ran a faster overall time and last 600m time compared to the time run in the stronger Class 2 Hcp over the same trip. The class 2 ran 1:51.76 which was 0.50 seconds Slower. Whilst the Last 600m of the Class 2 Hcp was: 0:36.94 which was 1.56 seconds Slower.
In a conversion to Margins, that means D’Amore D’Merrier would have run approximately
3.5 lengths faster overall and ran approximately
10.75 lengths faster her last 600m which is massive and highlights she has the class to keep going through her grades.
A magnificent looking mare, D’Amore D’Merrier became the 3rd winner from her dam Aqua D’Amore and another sibling was placed.
Congratulations go to her loyal team of owners who have stuck by her side through the ups and downs and now have the reward of a win and a photo for the wall.
In recording this win, our team feel as they have climbed their own “Everest” and the view is as satisfying as it is spectacular.
We trust that this may be the start of regular trips to the Winner’s Circle for the team of:
