Congratulations to our loyal team of
Dynamic Syndications Owners that race the
beautifully bred DUCHESS MARIZZA (3yo Filly by DEEP FIELD x PRINCESS MARIZZA) on her terrific and
dominant WIN on debut in Race 5 at Gosford on Thursday afternoon for the brilliant
CIARON MAHER & DAVID EUSTACE Stables.
DUCHESS MARIZZA winning at Gosford
DUCHESS MARIZZA ($7.50) won the Luux Properties Maiden Handicap 1100m against the boys.
Carrying 56.0kgs our filly was able to post what became a soft win by 1.04 length over Ultimate Thinker ($1.75) with Right Bower ($6.00) 56.0kgs, a further 0.79 length behind the runner-up in third spot.
Jet Pilot Keegan Latham continued his good run of winners when steering our filly around the tight turning Gosford circuit, giving her the perfect ride.
Jumping away from barrier 7 in a field of 8 runners, our speed map panned out exactly as we had envisaged, and we were extremely confident in the run after the field had travelled their first furlong.
We expected the favourite Ultimate Thinker, who had Barrier 1 and a 2.0kg claim for in form apprentice Tom Sherry only carrying 54.0kgs, to push forward and hold the advantage of the rail.
We knew our filly had good natural gate speed and had the pace to lead, but we didn’t want to get involved in a speed battle against a horse we believed would be weak at the end of the race and in the process blow our own chances.
We asked Keegan to be aggressive over the first 150m and then, cross over from wide and if the favourite wanted to push up and control the race, that’s fine but make it work and then grab hold of our filly to sit off it, about half a length so to annoy it.
That’s exactly how the race panned out and Ultimate Thinker despite the advantage of the fence and a 2.0kg pull in the weights wilted under the pressure.
At the 50m mark
Then as
DUCHESS MARIZZA was in control and swept to the lead, Tom Sherry dropped his whip which had no bearing on the result but did allow Keegan to be kinder to our filly in the run to the post.
DUCHESS MARIZZA was certainly in control
There were no excuses for the beaten brigade as our stunning looking daughter of
DEEP FIELD, one of the Best Sires in the Southern Hemisphere, was simply to classy and we will certainly aim her at better class races than this.
A special acknowledgement goes to
Annabel Neesham, the boss of CIARON MAHER’s Warwick Farm stables on her patience and horse husbandry skills which have polished our filly into a sparkling racing prospect.
DUCHESS MARIZZA had a set back in early training as a 2yo and developed issues as a result. To ensure she was given every opportunity to succeed,
DUCHESS MARIZZA has been on a deliberate strategy of slow build up to give her the best foundation possible. It worked a treat.
An exceptionally appealing filly on type and she has a huge black-type pedigree to match.
Sire - DEEP FIELD
DEEP FIELD is the leading Second Crop Sire in Australia by Winners and is Australia’s Leading Sire of 3yo’s with his first crop and our filly has added to this record.
She is now a winning daughter of the very talented Stakes Winner and Multiple Group placed
PRINCESS MARIZZA. She is a half-sister to Stakes Winner
BUCKLE MY SHOE and Stakes Placed
TWILIGHT ROSE.
2nd Dam
ROSE OF MARIZZA was also a Stakes Winner. She won 2 Listed Races.
3rd Dam is dual Gr2 Winner
COUNTESS MARIZZA.
When we purchased this filly at the
Magic Millions Yearling Sale in 2018, from
NEWGATE FARM, their boss
Henry Field immediately purchased back into her knowing how well she had done as a yearling and how bullish the farm was about their future.
HENRY FIELD - Boss at Newgate Farm
Henry was right, and thanks to patience and skill of her trainers plus the patience and understanding of the owners not to push her she has achieved on the track.
