DUNDEEL produces Gr1 Randwick Guineas Quinella CELESTIAL LEGEND and MILITARIZE

Two gifted 3-year-old sons of DUNDEEL fought out the finish in Saturday’s Gr1 Randwick Guineas (1600m), with the honours going to CELESTIAL LEGEND.

Exciting young sire DUNDEEL sired his eighth (8th) individual Gr1 Winner as CELESTIAL LEGEND capped a sensational Saturday for the Arrowfield Stud based stallion, when he produced the Quinella in the $1 million ATC Randwick Guineas 1600m after an intense battle with the runner-up MILITARIZE, also a son of gun stallion DUNDEEL.

The Guineas Quinella put an exclamation mark on a momentous day for Arrowfield Stud graduates.

Sire DUNDEEL followed on after victories in Gr2 events by Autumn Angel - a daughter of THE AUTUMN SUN & SWITZERLAND - a son of SNITZEL.

Celestial Legend is Dundeel’s 8th Group 1 Winner & his second Gr1 Winner this season after Golden Rose winner MILITARIZE, and Arrowfield Stud’s 26th graduate Group 1 winner since 2014.

Celestial Legend’s Jockey Kerrin McEvoy described his mount’s response under pressure “He was tough the last furlong because I had to ask him for that extreme effort, and he put his head out and dug deep. It was a lovely win, first time up to the mile.”

Celestial Legend’s Trainer Les Bridge expressed warm appreciation for both the horse and his owner, Bon Ho who purchased Celestial Legend for $220,000 from Arrowfield’s 2022 Inglis Classic draft.

“He never got on the track (today). It was amazing,” Les Bridge said.

“I think he’s the best horse I’ve had, and I’ve thought so for a while, but I’ve been frightened to admit it even to myself. But he’s fantastic.

“A mile will do me. If he pulls up well, I’ll run him in the Doncaster.

“He’s just a beautiful animal, that’s all…I’m only just scratching the surface with him…I’ll run him in the Doncaster if he pulls up all right.

Celestial Legend’s account is certainly healthy, after three (3) wins from 7 starts, almost $1 million in prizemoney and a Group 1 Classic.

This follows on from owner Bon Ho’s success with Everest winner Classique Legend & Hong Kong Group 1 winner Southern Legend.

Celestial Legend, a grey son of Dundeel, had opened his stakes account at his previous start in the Gr2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill.

Celestial Legend is the first foal, runner & stakes winner out of Snitzel broodmare Sarraqa, a daughter of South African Horse of the Year National Colour, and three-quarter sister to Group 1 winners Rafeef (now a successful sire in South Africa) & Mustaaqeem.

Sarraqa has a 2YO daughter National Code (by Written Tycoon) and a yearling colt by Maurice to be offered at next month’s Inglis Easter Sale. She is once again in foal to Dundeel.

Then not to be overlooked, DUNDEEL had further Black-Type added to the resume when he produced the Gr3 runner-up Street Of Dreams – 5yo g Dundeel ex Causeway Queen in the Committee's Prize 1600m in Singapore on Saturday.
